Gomez

Some here know that i'm a huge Gomez fan. And i have just got their latest release 'How We Operate' and have to say that it is fantastic. I was mildly disappointed that it never got released on vinyl as I have all their other records on that format, which are really well pressed too.

This latest record isn't so bluesy in its approach and has a lighter feel to it, but still very good.

Just wondering if there are any other Gomez fans out there......I know of one at least Winker

I would be pleased to make a list of artists/shows I have downloaded and enjoyed. There have been a number I have rejected and this may save some folks time in seeking out "quality" shows, if your tastes/expectations track mine.

It may be best to make that info exchange offlist, although I see no Naim forum rule we would be violating. all are available at www.archive.org . I will try to put that list together tonight and if you or anyone on the forum are intersted, request it at uagain51@hotmail.com

Update time... In Our Gun and Split The Difference both excellent, hard to choose between them so I won't. Abandoned Shopping Trolley Helpline just tracked down and ordered @ 9.99 - so just Bring It on to complete the vinyl set.

Thanks guys for prompting me to dig out an album that had festered for years - and then spending a load of money afterwards Smile

Steve,
you're welcome. They are a great band and deserve to be bigger.

Steve -
Delighted to hear that things are going well; and I hope it won't be too long before you find a 'Bring It On' on vinyl.

My own take on why they didn't get bigger is it must be their imagination/imaginativeness. Yes, they can produce things that sound like a 'pop' song, but overall their music is so much more imaginative than many of their more famous contemporaries; and neither do they specialise in 3 minute tunes!

From my slight personal experience Big Grin I can say that this really is a great example of the sound and performance quality of a Gomez gig. Excellent! Smile

Thank you, thank you, Jeff for the two CDs and to Ryan for forwarding them. Much appreciated!

It's great to have recordings of contemporary performances. And I particularly like the acoustic set in NY. It's great to hear just how well the music stacks up when stripped down, so to speak. Ben Ottewell's voice never ceases to amaze.

But for me perhaps the big surprise is 'Sweet Virginia' (a song I kinda liked but also found kinda drippy on 'Split'). Here in the stripped down version, where we can concentrate on the intelligent lyrics rather than musical gymnastics, it comes across really strongly. And Tom's voice is not wobbly with the usual nerves live.

I shall enjoy listening to this. And my CDS2 plays it all happily!

Thanks again chaps! As I said, much appreciated.

Just listening to the acoustic set now and its a really good recording and sounds great when given a bit of welly Winker.

Not that I'm usually into bootleg discs but if anyone else wants a copy of this I'd be happy to forward some on like Jeff did for me and James.

If it's a freely-available, free to download gig, then I'm not sure it's bootlegging. Rather, you are passing on the band's own promotional material!

"Bootlegs" are non-commercial, non-professional live recordings SHARED, never bought or sold. Savy bands do realize the promotional value of this when it is done with integrity.

If you go to a live show and someone is outside selling "recordings" and hocking tickets, don't participate unless you can confirm the legimate association of the person with the band.

Both recordings discussed were sourced from the internet, one is an audio track from a link at the official Gomez website, te acoustic show is an edited version obtained from the dozens of Gomez shows at archive.org.

Simple rules really - share, never buy or sell. Buy their commercial releases, support their live shows.
