iPod outdoes laptop

Some suggestions would be greatly appreciated,if you have a moment.
I've purchased a 30gb iPod for myself for Christmas. My laptgop is ancient and only has a 10gb hard drive. I''ve been copying my cd collection to the iPod, no problem, by ripping to my laptop hard drive and then "synching" with my ipod. Problem is, my laptop hard drive is running out of space and if I delete music from iTunes on my laptop, it removes those files from my iPod as well on the next "synch". What would be the easiest way for me to "tell" my ipod to only add files and not remove them while "synching"? Hope this makes sense.
Thanks
Jim

You need to get a larger external drive of some sort, to act as a back-up. It isn't secure enough using the i-pod as your primary storage, because you can't transfer music from the i-pod into i-tunes, only the other way round.

It appears there are some "after market" solutions around the ipod to pc or mac problem. I too have bought a 30GB Ipod, not arrived yet, and I will be adding the external drive.
A good source of information for all things ipod is:
iLoungeThere's some software called "anapod" and another called "copypod" that would appear to get around this limitation. There is also an option where you do not sync the ipod to the laptop too.

You can keep adding to the ipod without it being removed, just change the preferences to manually update the ipod, you then tick what you want put onto the ipod.
Time for a new computer though I reckon!

You can get a 40Gb external hard drive on ebay for around 40 quid, a good investment, you wouldn't want to have to rip all those CD's again. Of course you will need to have two USB's on your laptop; or one USB and a Firewire.
If you got an iPod photo or video, you might want t leave some capacity for images, it sounds like a naff idea, but when you see it in action,it's really quite good.
