Ripping FLAC with a Mac.....

Posted by: divuk83 on 04 September 2010

......I was a poet and I did not know it!

As a long time PC user who has just changed to an iMac I'm wondering if some of the mac veterans on here can help me. I have all my cds stored as FLAC on a NAS drive for playing on my uniti. On the PC I used dbpoweramp which I really liked however I don't think you can get this for the mac? Is there any other similar software I can get?

Cheers

I run dbpoweramp on my MBP, in a VMware Fusion virtual machine with Windows 7 installed.

http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/.

I can output the ripped files anywhere on my Mac formatted drive.

Thanks James I will give them a try.

I did look at VMware and pallels however both cost money and require a copy of windows which seems a bit unnecessary just for dbpoweramp.

As an alternative to MAX you could also try RIP (also from sbooth.org). It supports AccurateRip, i.e. it checks the ripped data against a database at www.accuraterip.com containing checksums of many thousand CDs. This should give you higher confidence in your ripped data. RIP is currently in BETA stadium.
