Its not really this was a bit of a send up for our distributors and it stuck, if anything this range is more our reference products. Putting silly names as we all know from the past is difficult.
But, if anything was a Classic, then a product like the 250 deserves the ticket.
We will drop the classic tag now the internal fun is over!
It may well be that in certain countries it may be used as a launch headline! The press love this!

Paul,
glad to hear this was a wind-up.
Thought you'd all gone bonkers, or something!
cheers, Martin

I too am glad that the Classic naim is no longer, but what about those prices ? Was the new design just a cover up to raise prices or is there real value in the performance of these facelifted products (eg. 82 to 282).

I thought someone was getting a nice spiff.
Overall I'm glad that the prices are only small increases (unlike the SL2 vs SBL).
So I look at the list of products and price points and I have to think the Intros are next to be revamped/replaced. And I'm expecting a DVD player.

Having just returned from our first US "product rollout" for the new gear I can certainly say that
the past couple of years R&D efforts at Naim amount to more than a mere facelift (substantial though that facelift is). The performance aspect of every model has been improved by some pretty wide margins. The 202/200 combo for starters will give you a good idea how far things have advanced. The 250 contains a massive transformer compared to the past, and also the much more expensive but high performing 007 transistors. If you guys are craving higher performance......come and get it ;o)

Chris,
Thanks for the response. Good the hear that this is more than a refreshed product line. When will we be able to start seeing and hearing these units in the USA.

For those of you in the New York area, the new equipment is currently on its way to New York city (as will be NaimUSA's Chris Koster who will be in town for about a week) . We recommend you contact the guys at Innovative Audio in Manhattan to get an audition soon!
We are hoping to have stock of new product in Chicago by the end of this month.....
(you can also get in touch with Chris at cskoster@aol.com)

Will it be possible to retrofit an Old Classic 250 with the New Classic transformer?
Posted on: 09 October 2002 by Chris West
No, the new transformer will not fit in the old chassis/circuit layout...

Is that Chris Koster's listening room? I can't help but notice that the SL2s are backed by lps. Are they far enough out to all access? I though they were supposed to be hard up against the wall give or take a few inches?

The room is at Audio Alternative, our Naim dealer in Fort Collins near Denver.
The records are wall to wall at each end of the room. For our demo the SL2's were moved in and placed pretty close to the "wall of music".
However, we used the CDX2 as our sole signal source and therefore we didn't need access to the vinyl behind the speakers....
By the way, we did spend time at CK's place where he had his 552/tri-amp 500/DBL set up singing fine tunes. Of course this was helped along by the fact that the new and improved XPS2 was underpinning his CDS2 performance!
The sound at Chris' place blew everyone's mind.....

I was just reading this months Stereophile and saw references to Naim's new "Classic" series in more than one place (show report and dealer ad). Does the press and your distributors in the USA recognize your statement about it being a "send up".????
