My [computer] disk failed

Just a reminder ...

The disk on my PC in work [scsi] failed. I have lost about two days of work but there are backups.

Have you got a backup ...

Backup? BackupS!

At home, i got an image of my system's partition. So if my hard drive is eventually crashing, i just buy another one, transfer the image on the new hard disk, and i'm ready to run in less than 1 hour.

All important massive data is on DVD-R for archives (in 2 or 3 copies), and i use DVD+RW and flash sticks for active files. 1 GB flash sticks are available for 20-25$ those days! Cool

Bye.

With external usb and firewire hard drives dropping in price every week, there is no excuse not to backup all your data and music if you use a server for streaming music. I also use a 2G flashdrive for backing up daily data. I use the external drive about once a month.

Really just want to advise people how important backups are. My work machine is backed up to tape every evening so I should not have lost more than a day or so of data [mainly email]. But it's just 40G. [I am getting a new machine since the old one is about 7 years old].

My home machine is 250G + 120G so basicaly I just copy stiff from disk to disk. Not practical to backup everything ...
