All the scams on Ebay
Posted by: Abbey-Crunch on 24 July 2006
Someone suggested that we get a running thread going in the Padded Cell for all the Ebay scams. I thought I would start it running and see if it takes off. Lets give it a go.
One idea would be for us to use it as a record of the pictures and / or descriptions.
The latest three look pretty blatant as they are all the same item description and photo but from different sellers:

Incidentally, to speed your sleuthing skills this link takes you straight to reporting a fraud, you need to be signed up with eBay though.

Must have worked, because all but the last two had been removed by the time I clicked on the links. Well done.

There's loads more of the "no bids - email me" type. You live in hope that they will get to grips with it.
Someone has had the idea of creating a name such as THISISASCAM and putting a bid on so that people are warned.
Steve.

That's him.
Can't e-bay do what you have just done then clear the lot?
Or do we have to complain about each one?
I know he would get another e-mail address but as they emerge they could be wiped off.

I have been in contact with eBay with their on line talk system and reported this guy. They assured me they took this very seriously and would investigate it.
They also said that strictly speaking there was not a lot they could do about genuine users giving away their details to email scams.
So as usual folk, never ever link to eBay via an email, ever. Its simple really.

I have just reported the first 10 items he has for sale and mentioned all the rest. Let's see if that does anything.
Posted on: 26 July 2006 by Abbey-Crunch
Have not come across this one before. When you click on the "details" link it takes you to a screen where they ask you to input your user name and password. Presumably if you do they take your details and hijack your account.
Again reported to Ebay.

There is another listing with the same picture and if you click on it, it immediately redirects you to a fake log-in page.
Be very careful folks..

Jason.
I've fallen for that one already on another listing for an Ekos. Luckily I noticed the URL was 'www.ebaeer.com' and changed my password straight away. This is how they hijack accounts.

Jesus I reported 469 scams today from two hotmail addresses.
You would think they would go after the ISP or Hotmail or something.
At the very least talk to Microsoft surely thay can do something!

If they don't do something to address this soon Ebay will become pretty much unusable (if it isn't already).

Just reported another 8 or 9 Naim items. When you look at the seller, he (or she) has 443 items for sale!

If it was a pub or a club, they'd be barred....."Sorry son your not coming in". If they are dodgy why do ebay continue to let them list.
With balance tho there seems to be good stuff out there on ebay but you have to be v careful
Your doing a great job policing ebay. well done, it shouldnt be you that does it tho, ebay should be more self regulating (if such a thing exists?)
