All the scams on Ebay

Posted by: Abbey-Crunch on 24 July 2006

Someone suggested that we get a running thread going in the Padded Cell for all the Ebay scams. I thought I would start it running and see if it takes off. Lets give it a go.

One idea would be for us to use it as a record of the pictures and / or descriptions.

The latest three look pretty blatant as they are all the same item description and photo but from different sellers:

Diccus, the fact is these scams are being made from hijacked accounts, reasonably what can eBay do?

If they were coming from the same user fair enough, but in terms of listings they are all different accounts.

Not necessarily hi-jacked.

They can stop allowing feedback on one cent sales. More here:

They could also trap repeated use of previous images with filters. Indeed there's lots they could do and one day it will be in their shareholders interest to do so.

I've started emailing these "*****@hotmail.com" or whatever sellers (though I assume it's all the same person) as follows...

Hi

Just wondering why you are putting these multiple listings on so often that are so obviously scams.

I can't imagine anybody falls for them.

You must have a very sad existance if this is all you can find to do with your time.

Regards
Mark

I don't use my main email address just in case it generates a pile of spam.

So far no response and no spam.

I did wonder if we all bombarded him/her/them with emails whether it would have any effect. Or like news group trolls are they best ignored.

It would be good if something could be done to stop what seems to be only one or two people messing the whole thing up.

I spotted (and reported) 17 scam items on the first page of Naim results yestereve. It does seem to be getting rather out of hand Frown

Lots more scams appearing again. Here is one example from a seller with 9 Naim items for sale:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Naim-NAP300-and-300PS-power-ampli...QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

The seller has 170 high value items for sale but has only 17 feedbacks - a clear hijack of an account?
