A Prayer for Team Ferrari

Posted by: Deane F on 19 October 2006

Dear God

Please let Mr Schumacher drive his Ferrari motor car to victory this weekend at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Also, please ensure that Mr Alonso wins no points.

Amen

I don't wish bad luck to anyone, but i wish to see Michael one last time on the highest step of the podium, that would be a very nice end of carreer for him, i think.

Bye.

I reckon he has proved himself to be the best driver we have ever seen. Unlikely to be surpassed behind the wheel.

Unfortunately, he has also established himself capable of employing the most unsportsmanlike tactics on the track and these have brought the sport into ill repute.

Your 'prayer' is, in my opinion entirely misguided. He has enjoyed a glorious spell at the top & deserves no more. Time to move on.

I am with you on this one Peter.

My 'prayer' is that he acheives one thing he has never seemed to do before-be a gracious loser to a driver who has beaten him fairly and sqaurely. I also hope he completes the weekend without the one-eyed devotion to all-costs victory that (in my opinion) has tainted his career and been part of the reason so many have been turned off F1. What will he do this time-tell Massa to drive Alonso off the track whislt he goes for the win? You could actually imagine it.

A driving genius-undoubtedly. He deserves a great send off and the respect of his sport. A quasi-religious devotion though seems to be pushing it.

Surely Alonso should employ the tried and tested method of driving into Schumie's car?

I might break the habit of the past few years and actually watch this one. If he goes out I'll go do something else instead.

All well and good.

I am no fan of Schumacher. The Ferrari he is driving is the only reason I want him to win the F1 Championship. The personalities mean very little to me.

I remember all the whinging on this forum when Ferrari was winning everything...

He'll be back driving for Renault in a years time. Watch this space...

Funny....this is the first time I can ever remember routing for Schumey, but I'd like to see him go out with another championship as he has definitely been a phenomenon.

"Best we've ever seen"??!!! Not sure about that Peter. I think others have at least equal claim; Fangio, Stewart, Clark, Lauda, Prost, Senna, Piquet, all of whom had more competition and less reliable cars when they were winning their titles.

Hmmm, qualifying didn't go too well for Mr S, did it?

Still - he'll have a good chance to show us his mettle in the race. I'll be watching for the first time in a long time...

Cheers!

Rich.

I have followed Mr S career throughout his forray in F1. What ever he has done is in the past. Lets not allow the past to spoil the enjoyment of todays race. It will be a cracker on way or another, the end of an era, not to be repeated again, probably.

Now where is my remote....

Erm, McLaren won all but one race in '88 (Monza) and that was when Senna was 'taken out' by a Williams driven by Schlesser. They had incredible reliability.
Granted most early cars were unreliable and Stewart had a talent for bringing home the car, knowing how fragile they were. But, the championships were shorter then so a few wins was all it took. Also a sick car could be brought into the pits and swapped for yer team mate's! Imagine allowing that now.

This is my first F1 race watch for a few years, so I hope it's good, but I miss Murray Walker & James Hunt. Frown

I too miss Hunt but Brundle's insight is far better. I only miss Murray's voice, not his constant mistakes!

Thank heaven there is no one to answer those prayers. Winker

What an eventful race. No doubt that Schumie is(was) a great racer it's a shame he did not always rely on that skill.
Well done Fernado and Renualt.

Dear All,

a result Schummy retires quietly and Alons wins the championship without winning the GP.

Massa wins the GP on his home GP .

So seems pretty good outcome for all concerned.

Ferrari seem to have picked a winner in Massa for next year.

Alonso has probably made a mistake with his move from Renault.

But who knows.

Hopefully next year will be agood un.

regards David

I didn't see the race (don't have subscriber television) but from what I read Schumacher punctured a tyre in the first few laps, got it changed and then ploughed through the field for fourth place!
Posted on: 23 October 2006 by Rasher
I recorded it and whizzed through it at 12x speed, stopping when something happened.
Schumy has been a wonderful driver even when he was unpopular. Remember the battle with Damon Hill all those years ago? Makes you realise how long he has remained at the top when others just come & go: Hill, Villeneuve, Hakkinen. Astonishing really. And even when you hated him, at least he gave you something to talk about at the office on a Monday morning. It became dull, but it'll be even duller now. It isn't for me anymore.
I'm always glad when someone manages to retire before getting killed, and I'm looking forward to the documentary.
Posted on: 23 October 2006 by Deane F
I think the Ferrari team deserves credit too. I saw very few pit-stop screw-ups from them over the years. Combined with Schumacher's ability to put in extremely fast in-laps and out-laps it was a winner for them over the years.

I agree with Eddie Jordan when he said MS was forced into early "retirement" and wouldn't be shocked to see him back in a year. Shumi replacing Fisi at Renault perhaps?

I'm looking forward to next year when several drivers might be possible WC's, not just one or two. Frontrunners might be:

Kimi in the Ferrari. Jean Todt and Ross Brawn, the brains behind Ferraris succeses the recent years, has allready followed MS into retirement from the racing team. They will not be automatic winnwers next year.

Alonso in the McLaren. Who knows, McL might get their act together next year, they have done it before.

Kovalainen in the Renault. The guy is extremely talanted and has been nurtured by Flavio the WC maker this year as a testdriver.

Keke's son in the Williams. They will have Toyota power next year. Anything can happen...
