A Prayer for Team Ferrari

Dear God

Please let Mr Schumacher drive his Ferrari motor car to victory this weekend at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Also, please ensure that Mr Alonso wins no points.

Amen

I doubt anybody is an "automatic winner" in Formula 1. The cars are only built just strong enough, the drivers are constantly pushing the edge of the envelope - on the verge of coming unstuck nearly all of the time. One second lost in the pit is easily a place lost in the points. etc.

It would have been great to see MS back at Renault. Meanwhile...Click

I've heard a rumour that Audi have offered MS $5m to drive for them at Le Mans.

PS. The rumour is that the next rumour is only a rumour.

PS Is it only me that thinks the new Audi R8 sportscar looks fabulous.

I wait until I see a car in the flesh before deciding whether I like them or not. Most supercars look a bit awkward to me in magazines and on the telly. But, for example, when a Bugatti EB110 pulled up next to me at some lights in Saudi I nearly cried... the thing looked incredible, the designer's lines making sense.... Then the young lad driving it floored the thing and I was in love.
Up til then I'd thought it an ugly, pointless, cynical sales and marketing exercise.

Tony, fair point. It is so hard to get a feel for that essential sense of stance and proportion from pictures alone. Many modern cars seem to mess it up too.

I remember seeing pics of the Alfa SZ when launched. I thought it looked like a grotesque hunchbacked monstrosity. Then I saw one in the flesh (well, plastic) and it was indeed grotesque and hunchbacked but somehow totally fantastic! Always wanted one ever since, nearly actually bought one 2 years ago but (probably merciafully) it was gone before I picked up the phone.

I also saw my first Citroen C6 this week and it looked remarkably good, quite a surprise.

A friend of mine sold his SZ a couple of years ago. When he took me for a spin and floored it for the first time I let out some sort of ridiculous sound of joy. What a beautiful sound. He only did about 2,000 miles in 4 years, through choice not reliability issues, but hated the Alfa dealers.
He now owns a 350Z GT. Best car he has owned.
