Realistic Piano Sound

Just mentioning that, IMO, the Charlie Hayden/John Taylor "Nightfall" CD on the Naim label has an exceptionally realistic piano sound, which is quite rare. It can actually sound like a piano is in the room.

Unfortunately, many engineers, in an attempt to make the piano sound larger than life, totally kill the illusion of listening to live music. Ken C. captured it beautifully. Kudos.

The two hardest sonorities for the sound Engineer and Producer, are the piano and the the pizzacato. On the other hand both were beautifully captured in the 1920s, after the electric micrphone was introduced. This simple fact just shows how adding the technology to "adjust" the sound only made things worse as technologies became more sophisticated, especially with multi-track and "remixing" ...

As someone who's had the great fortune and pleasure to have been recorded on piano by Ken, I totally agree. It actually sounds the way it sounds, if you know what I mean.

All best,
