CDP's - anyone switched from Linn to Naim ?

Posted by: DIL on 08 November 2003

Hi,
Currently run a Karik(III):Numerik into 82, S'Cap, 250, Kabers. Anyone swapped this CDP combo for a Naim CDP. (eg CDX/2)

If so, why ? Is it worth moving to a more recent player ?

FWIW, Added the Numerik 2nd hand a couple of years back and found it made a huge difference to the listenability of the sistem.

About 9 years ago I had a Karik (1) and was about to aquire a Numerik. I demo'ed the Linn system, which had 'brilliant' poewer supplies, and a Naim cds1. I bought the cds1.

My recollection is that the Linn was pleasant and docile. It provided good detail and a pleasant insight to the music.

The Naim was dynamic and detailed, much more so than the Linn. It presented the music in the raw; rasping and wheezing when the band was rough; serene and soothing when the orchestra was refined. It grabbed you by the throat and made you listen to the music.

And it had bass.

At the time i was playing it into a 72/hicap/250/isobariks.

No regrets

Goodby Linn cdps (but I still have my LP12 and its still better than my cds2/cdps)

Cheers

Don
