Hmm, Isobariks - nice.

With thanks to Julian, J.N. & 'FitBoy' (yes, really) for their back-breaking efforts:-

Unfortunately, I cannot hear them at their full potential, yet.

For now, I only have the NAXO for my Isobariks to hand. New year before I will be able to hear them as their maker intended. (I have been assured that it is safe to use the DBLs in this way).

Still, they sound pretty good for now.

cheers, Martin

Stereo imaging and all that... wink

I just wish I could get my new digicam to work... frown

It's always a nice day for it wink Have a good one! smile

It's good to get back to normal. wink

Aren't the DBLs a bit close for comfort?

Hmm, I won't argue that point!

Still, I wanted to get an idea of how they sound compared to the Briks, so centered them in the same place as the boxes they replaced. They don't have spikes in them at the moment, so I can slide them across the carpet without inducing a hernia.

I do hope to move the speakers as far apart as I can, i.e. reduce the gap to the TV as much as possible:-

Still, I do worry if it's going to knacker the tube (it's a Sony KV-29F1U if that's relevant).

cheers, Martin

P.S. The Christmas cards certainly didn't seem to like it, though. They all fell off the TV in shock during the first two tracks we played!!! I have witnesses.

That I can believe! big grin

It looks like your space is as limited as mine!

Who needs the telly anyway when the music sounds so good! wink

Right, I'm off to sleep.

It's always a nice day for it wink Have a good one! smile

Thanks, Martin, for the Fairport cover pic--reminded me immediately of a record-shopping excursion scheduled for this afternoon...

Your Isobarik NAXO should be fine for the DBLs short-term--you'll likely notice an extra bit of overlap in the midrange, as the filter pass frequencies in both types are the same in some spots.

Don't worry about the CRT in the TV, as there are "null points" at which the woofer magnets have the least effect on screen geometry. Move the TV a few inches, and---ah, just right. (I had mine slightly forward of a five-foot space right between the speakers, with no ill effects).

Congrats for fitting the DBLs into as small a room as I'm about to move mine!

I borrowed a LP12 and have reinvented a lot of music. I sold mine a year ago....

You're welcome.

I presume this is the crossover between bass & mid? This isn't sounding quite right at the moment.

I am considering moving the speakers outwards until the outside edge of the left speaker is almost touching the TV. If I bring the TV just forward of the front of the speaker I should be safe? From your description, can I assume that any problems I do get should resolve themselves, or can be sorted by de-gausing?

BTW, this will give me 130cm between the speakers, rather than 70cm at the moment.

The room is 21' long, but narrows to just over 9' wide for about half of it's length:-

I will also try the speakers across the room, and down the length from the narrow end.

Unsurprisingly, they do sound better when you get further away from them.

How small is that, BTW? Do you forsee problems?

Also, if I could intrude with yet another question, I will shortly re-do the bass gasket and pads. If I need to fill where the spikes touch down, is there a particular product recommended for this? (Yes, I know, shades of my other thread, but this is different, also!)

Welcome aboard.

Let us know when your distinguished visitors have been.

Many conference members would be interested in your system.

Simon,

welcome. Of course, you will have to visit once I have things running well. Suspect this may involve some repositioning, but I can do this on my own before I put the floor spikes in.

Simon's other nym (see top of thread) is purely to do with his powerlifting, you make any other inferences at your own risk. eek

cheers, Martin

Yes welcome aboard the forum Simon ...good to see you here.

Martin, I think you will be fine with the speakers close to the TV.. and if you do notice any colour patching ...a slight move a matter of mm's can make all the difference. Any serious magnetising problems are usually coped with well by the Sony degauss system.. after a few power up/downs... more serious than that a degauss coil may be needed.. but I have never needed to use one when I have placed speakers close to my Sony TV.

DBLs look most impressive...look forward to hearing them when you are happy with the setup.
