stageline vs. prefix

Posted by: Markus S on 27 January 2003

hi guys,

I may want to install a separate phono stage. What's the technical/sonical difference between Stageline and Prefix? What are the best options regarding power supplies? And how do they stack up to non-Naim competition?

Grateful for your help.

Recently compared a 1996 K prefix with grey snaic to 2001 K stageline with BNCs and the prefix was, surprise!, better. BTW you don't have to have an LP12 to use it. You just need to be able to place it somewhere within about three inches of the jack in the tonearm.

I don't know what the internal differences are, but the prefix gets rid of the tonearm cable (which means you have less flexibility in the placement of the tt and pre), is more susceptible to RFI, and as I said, sounds a good bit better.
