Apple & Naim

Now that would be an interesting collaboration. The useability of iTunes with the sound quality of a Naim implemented player.

iTunes is a nice easy way of storing and using your music collection. Lots of nice apps to remotely control iTunes (and i hear Apple are releasing a remote control app for the iPhone / Touch very soon) - very easy for the whole family to use.

The Airport Express is a very cheap way to get multiroom - ok its not the best sounding device but it is only £50.

Now take the AE internals - chuck away the wireless card and just allow hard wiring - utilise the AE Ethernet interface along with Naim designed power supply, DAC and analogue stages.

It could even be produced as a 'Sneaky' module for those n-Vi owners wondering what do do with the space for the Scaler card Big Grin

Re the airport express...... if you take the digital output and shove it in a DAC ( or a supernait) then it sounds really really good !!

What kind of soundcards are employed in these Apple machines?

Are they, or is Itunes, capable of passing through 24/96 audio?

I thought there were major problems with Itunes and full hi-res files???

It does and i have - but (to me) the SB sounds even better and my n-Vi's internal CD player still has the edge.

I already use one of the digital inputs to stream my Mac Mini through the n-Vi, with excellent results.

Same here - its an excellent little digital hub
Cool

Much rather they used the 'space' to develop a HD module (using current standards) that connects to a Naim BD add-on expansion (half-size) box.

Now that would be interesting...

I upgraded my AirPort Express (feeding an AV2 over optical digital) to an AppleTV. Now I have a display and remote control. With the stuff stored on the internal disk, the Mac/PC does not have to be on when playing. It's a new Firmware 2.1 out for the AppleTV now.

With the new iPhone 3G, or an "old" iPhone or iPod touch upgraded to the Software 2.0 you can use them as remote control with the new iTunes 7.7 Smile

I hope you can use them to control the naim servers too Confused

happy streaming
