Went to see him live last week, great show. I had only heard a couple of his songs so took a chance and was really impressed. A very unusual technique of playing, most enjoyable.
Anyone else like this guy? I'm thinking of buying his Metal album, unless any other suggestions.
Cheers

Saw him play a small show a few years ago and was bored stiff by the end of the evening. All technique and no feel and, by 'eck, didn't he like himself.

He played a range of guitars at the gig including some jazz style. I guess he's not the type of artists where you would buy lots of his albums but I can't help admiring that technique.

Steve,
I couldn't agree more. We saw him a couple of years ago and felt the same way. Couldn't help comparing him to the amazing Eric Roche, who I was fortunate enough to see shortly before he died. Even though he was clearly not well and he was obviously not at his peak, it was a spellbinding evening. His dvd is one I watch over and over.

Boy this post took me back....
When I was first getting familiar with acoustic guitar music I purchased "Pointing Up" on LP by Preston Reed and it became a particular favorite
http://www.prestonreed.com/releases/pointing_up.htmlBut then I stumbled on John Fahey "Visits Washington DC" and "Railroads" which prety much made the rest of my guitar music record collection seem largley pointless....

I sure his style would wear a bit thin after a while, I've only found Quintanta Roo so far. Antonio Forcione has a much more percussive and therefore more interesting style IMO.
Maybe not apples with apples?

Groovemasters Vol 1, his collaboration with Laurence Juber is definitely worth a listen.
For interesting (and unconventional) acoustic guitar playing you might also like....
Don Ross, particularly "Passion Sessions"
Kaki King "Legs to Make Us Longer"
Andy McKee "Art of Motion"
Erik Mongrain "Fates
