CDS2/XPS2 >> CDX2/XPS2 >> CDS2/XPS

According to Paul Messenger in this month' Hifi Choice. Looks like I might be getting an XPS2 then.

I am very happy with the upgrade and was not conditioned to wanting a large improvement by virtue of amount spent. Indeed, as I have sold my XPS the additional amount spent is not great and in my opinion very good value for improvements.

Perhaps the improvements were more noticeable as they have been in the areas that I perceived there to be a weakness. Maybe others who have not found great differences have already a well balanced sound and good sounding room?

I must have missed something because I wasn't aware that you could mix and match power supplies across the CDS range. This is of great interest to me as I have a CDS2 which I traded from a CDS and am now waiting to demo the CDS3 (in April I understand). Are all power supplies interchangeable across the range and are they all "better" than their predecessor ? For example, if I decided that most of the benefit in moving to a CDS3 was derived from the PS, could I just buy a XPS2 and sell my XPS to the person that bought my CDS, and what could he do with his PS ?

Mark.

CDS1 must be used with it's CDPS (and there are even early CDPS that must not be mixed with later CDS1 and vice versa).

XPS & XPS2 (and CDPS with a modified burndy) can be used with any of CDX1/CDS2/CDX2/CDS3.

So you can upgrade to XPS2 with your CDS2, but your CDS1 friend cannot make use of your XPS1.

cheers, Martin

Martin,
i remember an email reply from Naim (Mark Tucker)
mention that it was possible to use the CDS1 w/ XPS1.
not something Naim promoted...requiring a special Burndy at the least.
but this was so long ago, i may be wrong...apologies for the confusion.
will update if/when i find it, unless Naim can clarify the same.

I have had the XPS2 upgrade for a week now and it a very good upgrade to the CDS2. I cannot generally hear "small" upgrades.

It brings out more detail, an easier to listen to presentation and more clarity/authority to vocals.

I can't wait to try the CDS3.

I've recently changed my XPS1 to a XPS2 on a CDX1 and the scale of difference really suprised me.

Everything is hugely better - I'm hearing instruments I've not heard before/less harshness & more musical. I would seriously advise any CDX/CDS2 owner to dem the difference - it's massive in my view.
