What video and SLR camera

Posted by: Seanf on 07 April 2009

I've been asked to find a suitable video camera and digital SLR camera for the small school where I work. They will be used mainly for filming school productions and events, they won't be taken off site very often so size and weight aren't really an issue.

The SLR will probably be a Nikon D60 or D80/90 if they can stretch to it. I really don't know where to start with the video camera apart from that a hard drive might be a good option and something better than the standard models from JVC, Panasonicc etc. I haven't been given a budget at this stage but am estimating that the max would be about 1000 euros.

Does anyone have any suggestions and is there a website similar to dpreview for video cameras?

Thanks

Sean

The latest released SLR are also doing HD video. It may worth checking Canon and Nikon.

So, search the web for camcorder reviews. There is a website that does independent evaluations and breaks down the video cameras into the different storage formats etc... They review both professional and Prosumer type kit.

From speaking to my friends it seems to be pretty accurate in its assessment.

Regardless, everyone agrees that you should buy software like Adobe Photoshop/elemnts to do you photo/video editing and do not use the software they provide with the camera.
