In a fit of peak I bought 'Discipline' - what a load of pretentious pap - almost as bad as seeing them live.

Gulp - try some Gentle Giant then. I'd recommend their superb compliation Pretentious .. for the sake of it.

Do you just not like Discipline or are you unmoved by all Mr Fripp's work?

I just didn't like Discipline - can't comment on Mr Fripps other work.

I guess Discipline, Beat & Three of a Perfect Pair are very 80's and of their time, seemingly driven by Adrian Belew. They probably don't stand the test of time as well as the others to be honest, although there is some good stuff in there still. I really hope you are not put off trying another era of Crimson. Red & Starless & Bible Black are the real starting points IMO.
