Recent CD quality versus several years ago...

New copy of Eva Cassidy - Live at Blues Alley has just arrived and it's markedly better that my existing c.2002 copy. Better separation/detailing - the vocal is slightly recessed in comparable terms although it has better spacial qualities.

Label etc is the same (made sure not to be buy another 'version'), as are the sleeve credits. It is almost at the point of being a new mix.

Could be a good idea to re-purchase a few old favourites?

I've been told that pressing factory DACs etc have improved alot and this may be the proof.

Happy Listener, I'm great Eva cassidy fan and always though the original CD sounded very good. Could you please post something unique about this new version (e.g. barcode) so I go and hunt down a copy.

Thanks,
Matty

Matty,

The latest copy was obtained from Amazon, UK.

It is the Blixstreet version (the original version issue - there appears to be another later issue on another label) and the cover is different in that in the top left hand corner is 'Live at Blues Alley' in smallish typeface. This isn't on my older copy.

Bar code 39341 00462 - with G2-10046 being the CD number on the label.

Per the other threads about de-mag'ing CDs, I might now stick the older version in the freezer and see if it improves.

What's the matrix number near the centre as I might be able to tell you what the pressing plant was?

You cannot be serious about putting a CD into the freezer, can you?

It is this kind of thing that gets Hifi enthusiasts a bad Naim ...

There you go again, giving people the cold shoulder...

..give me a bit of latitude.

I'm just putting green pen marks and triangular stickers on all my socket and plug tops.

They really make a difference.

Yes but where has the common sense gone?

We used to talk about music in the Music Room - not putting CDs in the freezer ... That was for the the Hifi Corner where lunacy always ruled ... even more than the Padded Cell, which was usually just funny ...

Goodness I am thinking that the world has moved on, and very much in a silly [anal] direction ...

Not sure but I know they are one of the States biggest manufacturing companies. Commonly known as WMG

Can't tell from that matrix which plant it comes from but I think most of their work is done in Indianapolis but as I say not sure.
