mac mini as storage.

Being somewhat new to the prospect of distributed audio I'm looking at the Mac mini as storage for my apple lossless files. Does 2.53 Ghz seem a reasonable size for 500 Cds or will I need more? I have them on my Sony Vaio but I want to get something to sit with my gear (282, 250.2 and N-vi. DAC and streamer to come when funds permit) Any help appreciated.

CP - the 2.53Ghz is a measure of the processor speed, not the size of the hard-drive - which is what will dictate the amount of CDs/data you will be able to store.....The base Mini model comes with a 160Gb HD, rising up to 500Gb for B.T.O models....Even the 160Gb model will allow for something like 250 CDs (allowing for 600Mb rips - I believe Apple Lossless will be less), and some room for a basic operating system and applications....

As ever, you can never have too little HD space - buy as much as you can afford + a bit more if possible. At the end of the day, it's cheap.

The Mini Server edition is also worth a look for your needs, which gives 1Tb of storage...however, it emits a CD drive, so you would have to do your CD ripping elsewhere...
