The Pogues

Just been listening to The Pogues. What a great group they are - Shane MacGowan's a brilliant song writer of course but so is Jem Finer -Misty morning Albert bridge is one of my favourites.
I first saw them at the Cambridge folk festival when they were just starting out so they didn't make the main stage - but better for it as they were in one of the small tents and almost blew it away! Cait was with them then - whatever did a beautiful woman like her see in Elvis Costello - still she had the sense to dump him.
I think Shanes still around and does the occassional gig but don't know if he's still writing songs or recording?

I saw them when we lived in California and they were fantastic. I'd been told that in the UK at that time they were a drunken rabble in concert but they couldn't get away with that in the US. They also couldn't get away with the IRA crap they came out with in Glasgow.

I seem to remember that the cover of the US release of one of their albums had been altered, filling in SM's gaping yaw with virtual teeth. Way in the days before 'Photoshopping' became a participle.
