Web radio software upgrade for HDX

Posted by: tonytronic on 09 May 2009

a Naim question, from an HDX owner.

A little bird (who is definitely NOT naimless! Smile) at the Bristol HiFi show told me that internet (i.e web) radio is technically possible using an HDX, as the HDX already has everything required to do this - except for application software.
The little bird also said that it was being considered as a future addition to the HDX, to be implemented as a software upgrade.

Is this still something we HDX owners can look forward to sometime in the future?
If so, what are the timescales for this?

cheers,
Tonytronic

Hi Tonytronic,

I've asked this question several times at this place. Unfortunately no reactions so far.

I'm looking forward to this option as well... Hope internet radio will be implemented to the HDX soon!

Regards,
Michel

It would also need to be streamable, with proper distributable metadata that could be viewed on the existing DigiLinX interface. Methinks this is the holdup, ultimately.

Linn has done it on there DS products. It may not have all the meta data but why not just start with what is possible and go from there. Internet radio will for many give more radio options than fm or DAB even though the quality varies a lot!

I have heard several times that internet radio will be available in a future upgrade, the question is in wich upgrade.

sitting here listening to Ed Reardon's Week via BBC I-Player app on my Transporter i feel that Linn/Naim got a bit confussed where Internet Radio streaming was concerned.
i did have full dem of a Linn Akurate/Klimax DS in Glasgow and was quite happy with the sound but the functionality was hopeless..no wifi and no radio and the user gui was a joke.
i'll keep my Transporter thank you.
