does anyone else have this recording? in loud passages, is there a faint buzzing, possibly from the keyboard?

If you are referring to the Lp edition of these sonatas issued in the 70's, I can tell you that at the time, many people complained about distortion in the loud passages of these recordings. In truth, these were one of the few times when DG cut their records with some real gutsy dynamics. If it is the cd version, which I have not head, then possibly this 'fault' applies to the recording as well and compression and limiters were not used as extensively as they are on many discs.
I don't want to turn this into an audio thread but I would suggest that, if you are having problems with noise and distortion on you're Lp12, you take it to someone who knows these decks and have it looked over. It may be the bearing is shot, the bearings in the tonearm likewise may be damaged, or any number of other problems.

the lp12 was serviced about 6 months ago. i'm having this problem with the cd. it's the only cd i have this problem with.
