Mr Grimsdale! Mr Grimsdale!

Sad to see that Norman Wisdom is no longer with us. I remember his films from my childhood with great affection.

Me too, a comical bugger if there ever was one and possibly the last of a dying breed that has the ability to have you on your knees crying with laughter without the language

Sorry, never found him funny, even in childhood.
Went off him even more when a few years ago we went to the Motorshow, fancied sitting in the new Quattroporte, so joined the queue. When it was our turn, they halted us, ushered in none other than Norman Bloody Wisdom and his Missus who then proceeded to poke around the Massa for the next quarter of an hour making everyone who had been waiting their turn incredibly fed up. Didn't even acknowledge keeping us waiting or say sorry or anything.
Still, 95 odd is a good innings innit? And I still don't feel guilty about laughing when he whacked the side of his head on the B pillar climbing into the car and then blamed his wife for not warning him to "duck down or something". (At which point she replied that the car was nearly as tall as him and that "... if you were to duck down any, you would be viewing it from the bottom up dear"

Saw him when I was about 6 years old and he sung
1 2 3 4 5 and 6 and 7
8 9 10 and then we come to 11
12 13 and 14 15 16 and 17
18 19 20 and 21
22 23 then we come to 24, if you want to know what I paid for my suit it was 25/6d
They don't make like that any more - sorry to hear he's no longer around.

I remember a "Sunday night at the London Palladium" show when there was an entertainment workers strike or some such on, when Norman and Bruce Forsythe did the whole hour as a comedy duo. It was really Norman being his zany self and Brucie trying to keep up.
What an amazingly inventive comic Mr Wisom was.

Was that the one where they did the slapstick wallpapering sketch?

Truly sad as he was a true comic genius.

It's bugging me. Who wrote "Narcissus"? I thought it was Leroy Anderson, but it isn't on any of my Anderson albums.

That's Francis Kane, not Frances Kane who was, of course Wally 'Kid Flash' West's girl friend.
Great song by Norman W and JG.

Very sad news. I loved him as a kid in the late 50s/60s and still enjoy watching the odd clip.

Although I wasn't a great fan of his brand of humour, I thought he was terrific in an old BBC play I watched where he played a man dying of cancer in hospital. Judy Dench played the nursing sister as I recall.
