Who uses Headline 2 with which cans?

Just out of curiosity...

I've been using 'em with Grado RS1 and combination so far is very favourable.

Dude: This place rocks. Your review of the RS-1 and the Headline on Head-Fi.org was great.

I was wondering how much the Headline would benefit from a Hicap2?

Sometimes I need an English language dictionary to understand what they're talking about. I still don't know what they mean by mullet?

Check out the music discusions since that's really what it's all about.

Hey Mitch,

ahhh. So, there IS a head-fier who hangs out at Naim forum. hehe.

having done a quick search here, it seems Headline/HD600 seems to be a popular choice. hmm.. interesting...

To be quite honest, I am not sure of difference in degree of power supply other than Naim firmly believes in it. I hardly qualify for being a Naimie ( let alone, i'll probably be kicked out if they find out i own valve gear Wink , however, I agree on what they believe in music reproduction.

I'll check out the music section. ( hope they go beyond Diana Krall and Pat Barber ) Big Grin

Nice to see an old face, brailledier.

Hi,
Nice to see you guys here too! My handle on HeadFi is the same as here. Have been with Naim amplification for more than 14 years and yes music reproduction is the main subject here.
Great review of the Headline too BTW. Now to hunt down a good mint second hand one to replace my META42 Wink
Enjoy your stay here guys!
Regards
Mat

on the subject of Headlines - can anyone tell me if it is possible to run a headline straight off a Naim cd player?
It is an ampifier, not just an expensive socket I presume, so has anyone done this?
I have a flatcap or NAPSC to power it.
cheers
Paul.

you mean as a preamp?
I dunno. I wasn't too thrilled when I used it with Headline's volume pot. ( this is with NAPSC )

I am, however, very pleased with its power amp section.

Hey Matt.

I forgot. What are you using as your primary can?

Yeah. I like the new Naim sound. ( not sure how you feel about that )

Naim sound, whilst I alwyas admired it, i was never sure if I can live with it for a long term. But when I have visited a local Naim dealer recently, I was plesantly surprised by how natural they sounded without losing the 'signature grooves'.

I am gonna try to home demo cdx2 in a near future. ( incidentaly, sounded pretty darn good with Grado/Headline in all Naim system )

Yes, it is possible if you get an adapter done up OR rewire the DIN supplied with the Headline.

http://forums.naim-audio.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=67019385&f=48019385&m=7501984076

I DIYed an adapter with Klotz cables (terminated with RCA plugs at the other end) and ran the Headline directly from the CDX2.

Thanks Naimed, missed that thread. BTW I use HD600 - I will try and get a listen to Grados sometime, hard to beat the comfort factor of 600s I would have thought tho.
Kuma - lost me there I'm afraid.

hehe sorry. I've missunderstood.
I assumed you wanted to use an external preamp.

yeah. if the comfort is the thing, RS1 would lose out.
RS1 has a strong flavor than HD600. Not everyone would dig it but Naim amp seems to bring out the best in it.

Kuma,
I just have a beyerdynamic DT880's and Etymotic Research ER 4S. I plan to audtion the (yet to be released) HD650 first before taking a plunge into serious cans like the Grado RS-1 (I have heard the HD600 howver). Oh yeah before I forget great pictures that came with the review.

Mat,

Surprising is that Headline is not losing marble driving a low impedance can like Grado.

The consensus here seems to be pair Headline with Senn.

I no longer have DT880, would have been interesting with Headline.

Kuma,

Grados are not a problem for either the new or the old Headlines. I checked before I bought 325s for my Headline. The stuff on the headphone forums about the 'mismatch' is apparently bollox.

Hope this helps,

Stephen

Yep. I'm just surprised that so few Grado/Naim users here.
Different presentation, but AKG/Naim is also an excellent paring.

Grados with an ipod could be quite interesting too.......

I used to run Grados 225 and 325 and Senn 600 with the headline. There's no question that the grados best reproduced the naim sound that I'm so used to.

Don't try electrostatics, the bass is slow and rounded.

I run Grado phones (HP-1 as I recall) and like the Grado/Naim combination. I find the Sennheiser sound was more recessed/distant (merely my descriptive terms) contributing to less involving presentation (and thereby more of a presentation than involving).
I realize that I can be a heretic but . . . I found the Grados more comfortable than Sennheisers. The Ss place pressure on the ears and that's uncomfortable over a listening session (I wear glasses). Grados rest on the top of the head and only very lightly rest over the ear (not true of all Grados) and this I found best for me.
EnJoy!

ah.. good see grado user coming out of a closet.

I found also Sennheiser not to my liking.

Grado/Naim's unhi-fi-ish nature suites my taste well.
