Well here it is then, started... Big Grin

A place for discussion of all things Rugby, whether club, national or international...

The next joy we have to look forward to is the Rugby World Cup. (I imagine it is at this point some of the NZ forum members will join in...)

Any comments, chaps? Or still a bit too early?

Biased prediction time.

SA 24 Argentina 13

France 18 England 22

If england lose they still should be recognised as the best team in the world and the only reason they will have left the competition is down to corrupt and criminally negligent refereeing Winker

Spike, you need to slow down that wrist action, take a deep breath, and re-read what you've posted. At the very least your remarks will be deeply offensive and hurtful to the people of a number of island nations of the South Pacific.

I thought the ABs looked the most average they have ever been, but the French should not be in the semis.

The French still manage to cheat and get away with it. They kill the game rather than create it.

The refereeing was disgustingly poor. The sin-binning was tripe and to miss the forward pass was unacceptable. Really, the game of rugby needs to sort the referreeing out. It's not up to scratch considering the magnitude of the games.

Correct score: ABs 18, France 13.
Are you serious the French on their day play the most sublime 15 man rugby in the world bar none . As a neutral i'd pay money to see France play against anyone more readily than England play anyone
England play to their strengths which are big physical forwards squeezing the life out of the opposition and battering the oppositions defence around the tight areas of the game. Effective for sure but free flowing rugby will not be seen from England against any opposition of parity.

What a game

I just feel sorry for Chabal who has been a stunning player so far.
But then again, I am in France.

May I repeat my question?

My £1 is still safe ..... wasn't a classic, but I thought it was great.

Your £1 is still safe and it probably cost me more to enter the TF1 text competition (prize €10,000) for the weight of the French pack at the kick-off. I was 2kg out....

Not for me. I'd choose Jason Robinson who was absolutely immense under the high balls today. As ROTF says it wasn't a pretty game and I was very frustrated with the constant kicking from one side to the other. This is where France made their territorial gains as their kicking from hand was much better than England's, apart from the first minute. England kept kicking to Traille in areas where he was not under pressure and the ball kept coming back with interest. England's defence won the game today, which is amazing considering the state it was in at the beginning of the tournament. Moment of the day for me was two lightweght backs, Tait and Sackey, tackling Captain Caveman in to touch!

England are not far away from being a very good team. They just need to be more clinical with their finishing now as they missed several opportunities to put France away and let them back into the game. The kicking from hand also needs to improve and Jonny is far from his best at the moment. However, they are learning to close a game out and it is they who are in the final after all.

Swing low......

For a man (Sackey) who came with a reputation as a superb attacker, but suspect at tackling he has had a superb tournament defensively.

About one good game I'd say. Winker

When Wilkinson was on top form, every defensive kick hit touch and had huge depth. Now he seems to be either very conservative or missing touch. Stepping up a level is essential for us to see off Argentina. Smile

Man of The Match for me was Jason Robinson. Caught every high ball kicked to him, made several great runs, tackled guys way too big for him and got ripped off by the linesman when he successfully and very cleverly evaded taking the ball into to touch.
We can bloody win this now!

Cheers

I think Laporte 'choked' to an extent-France seemed to have prgressively limited their ambition with every game.

England seem to be able to do this and still win but not France.

eh? we were watching the same game, surely?

Well done England, they did what they needed to at the right time to get the result they needed. Congrats to France for getting so far. They certainly made England work to get to the final. Not the exciting semi-final match I got up so early to watch, though. hey ho.

Exciting enough if you are an England fan.

What price if we get the South Africans of retaining the cup.

Frightening, bloody frightening turnaround if that happens.

I'll watch it over my pint of Cypriot lager - I've advised my missus I'm spending all week locating the 'right' venue in Paphos!

I thought it was exciting. I felt like I was going to have a bloody heart attack in the last twenty minutes.
Posted on: 14 October 2007 by Whizzkid
I have a feeling that with the way this tournament has gone it could be a fantastic final between.

England V Argentina

And of course there's just a bit of history between us two, wouldn't you say.

For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in England now-a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here (in Paris),
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.
