Well here it is then, started... Big Grin

A place for discussion of all things Rugby, whether club, national or international...

The next joy we have to look forward to is the Rugby World Cup. (I imagine it is at this point some of the NZ forum members will join in...)

Any comments, chaps? Or still a bit too early?

First win of the season for my other team now and off the bottom. That's one win each for Wasps and QPR. This is becoming a habit!

And another defeat for Tigers. The season just gets better!

So, of course, I'll be cheering on the Argies tonight. Clearly this is because the English and the Argentinians have a close alliance that goes back years!

Come on you Pumas!

Oh well - got the result of the runners-up semi-final wrong Frown

A shame for the Pumas. They played some good rugby but unfortunately the occasion got the better of them and they made some basic errors which allowed the Boks to score 3 or 4 breakaway tries from turnover ball and interceptions. I think that with a little more experience of top level competition they could go all the way.

Hernandez showed flashes of brilliance but made too many mistakes for a world class player in a semi-final and South Africa were too clever to allow the Argentinian maul to roll them over. They pretty much fronted up to the Pumas' rucking as well and were just too canny at the breakdown. Argentina met their match up front today.

So it's England v South Africa and the old guard is restored with England in their third cup final and South Africa their second. I think it will be closer than 36-0 but the Boks will have too much for England who have pretty much over-performed at this world cup since the first two matches. Still even if we lose we will be the third most succesful team ever in the history of this competition. Not bad for the worst world champions ever!

win or lose the final - England have showed back bone and pride - other sports would do well to take a look at em, all of em!

What's all this win or lose - like our cricket and football teams, England don't know the meaning of the word lose .... besides I want my £80.

Still didn't opinion on this very forum tell me that England couldn't beat either Australia or France?

Have faith - if we're still there or thereabouts with 10 minutes to go then the game plan is simple - give the ball to you know who (don't want to give too much away if any Boks read this forum) and he'll do the rest Smile

"Biased prediction time.
SA 24 Argentina 13
France 18 England 22"

well I'm very pleased with my estimates made last week.

Very pleased.

And if we win, we overtake Australia as the most successful team in the Rugby World Cup. Smile

Ok,

Forget Refs etc, the AB are out cos they want to play total free flowing rugby. if you are 2 points behind with a few mins to go you go for a drop goal. The aim of the game is to win? I believe the last passage of play the AB had 26 phases against the French, 26!!!!
AB don't go blaming the ref, he also let a lot go for the AB too! but in the end your inability to know how to win ugly was your downfall.
England are not a very attractive team to watch but they know how to win. It is the same in all sports, it's great to win with style but in the end you have to know how to win first. AB world cup record speaks for itself.

Don't get too uppity about this all - the English have only won the cup once as well.

It is amusing tho to think that the last 4 years have been the worst England have played - ever...

You would have been out of the RWC after the pool play Cool

As a punter on uk tv said this week - " It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog"

The English dog has a lot of fight in it at the moment. Beyond the predictable accusations of boring rugby, the one thing that the other big teams need to at least acknowledge is the total physical commitement which has been discovered in the England camp over a glorious four weeks.

Anything is possible now and if they win it and turn around a 36-0 drubbing then it would be the upmost cynic who would begrudge them lifting their prize.

I have just been sent a text from a company director pal of mine:

'Hello mate, I've just been offered corporate hospitality to travel to Paris on Sat 20th oct to watch the rugby WC final - all expenses paid. I can take 2 mates and wondering if you are not doing anything if you could put my bin out on the Friday'?

Good job we're crap then! Apparently coming home early can be upsetting and lead to unpredictable behaviour!

Uppity??

FACT! AB have one it once and so have England. The point is the most arrogant rugby nation in the world just chokes's at the world cup. Why? Cos they can't just go for a drop goal which is all it would have taken to have won.

As i said, England ain't pretty to watch but they have suddenly rediscovered how to win. That's what has taken the whole rugby community and the English fans by utter surprise, cos they are playing like a team and have the self belief that they can beat anyone! After four years of utter shite it is amazing. If that's uppity then so be it. But it's England, not the AB who are in the final.

Don't go blaming everybody else other than the fact the AB and their supporters are too arrogant to except winning by a drop goal. A win is a win.

Odds in favour of SA but we can carry on dreaming.

Go on England!
