Well here it is then, started... Big Grin

A place for discussion of all things Rugby, whether club, national or international...

The next joy we have to look forward to is the Rugby World Cup. (I imagine it is at this point some of the NZ forum members will join in...)

Any comments, chaps? Or still a bit too early?

I think David knows full well that PJT is talking about (formerly Otago) Highlanders v (formerly Waikato) Chiefs, James. He's having a little jest with us.

Well spotted Mark!

Sorry Red Face I've been spending quite a lot of thread-time recently with some of our good friends on the Forum who don't have English as their first language, who do excellently but don't always get subtleties like irony.

Another solid performance from Sharks last night. And the SCots lads seem to be coming into a good vein of form right before the 6 Nations.

If Wasps (lying 7th) can push Glaws so close as 18-17, then Tigers (lying 2nd) should stand a pretty good chance of upsetting them when we visit Kingsholm on 9th Feb. Watch out, we're on our way!!
Posted on: 27 January 2008 by David Sutton
Well said, James. Come on the Tigers!

Thanks for the invite, Anthony. I'd love to take you up on that depending, of course, on what my customers want to do as they will have the final say!

Regards

Mark - let me know if you can make it into the tent for a glass - if you ask for me there I will meet you or after the game -

as for my predictions - well lets hope the coach bringing team "Swansea" does not break down - I certainly think the men in white can do it

England 28 Wales 15

Predictions- first of all the weather will make the games a bit low scoring.

Scotland 3 France 15

England 24 Wales 12 (If Wales start poorly it could be bigger)

Italy 12 Ireland 9-I think Ireland may be wooden spoon this year.

Anthony.

I may have to play it by ear as I am also in a corporate hospitality marquee before and after the game.

I'll swing by if I can.

Enjoy the game tomorrow.

Just to make you feel even sicker, James, I've been invited by a supplier to go along as a guest this time to the England v Ireland game in March!

Double Bl00dy ar$e.

What a shocking second half.

Note to self 'don't watch England / Wales at a Welsh friends house again'

Time to (continue) drown (ing) my sorrows.

Cheers

worm

PS I know this is not life or death - it is far more important than that...

Well, the Ospreys may not be the All Whites anymore, but were they reading this? I went out tonight with Wales on the end of a hiding, drowned my sorrows and am greeted with the news that they won.

England must have been shocking.

Well what a game of 2 halves - England altough in the lead at half time till missed changes - they should of had the game finished by then - the Welsh in the first half had no chances - I don't know what Warren G put in the tea or team talk at half time but to be fair the welsh came out with fire and drive - England lost in the last 20 mins - woefull defending - No one as a "general" on the field and in fact deserved to loose the Match - I had a welsh customer with me - 3 others in front and 2 behind me - needless to say they were pretty happy after the game - beer tents were very, very full for a long time following the game,

My overview of the England performace

Vickery - lumbering, No vision
Regan - good agresstion - not quick enough around the fringes
Sheriden - great game - stripped the ball, made his presence felt
Haskall - good game, broke the game line - big and fast
Narraway - good presence, 1st game sure it won't be his last
Gomarsall - lacked vision - not at the top of his game

Interesting thought is i believe our 3/4 line will develop into a world beating one - Flood played out of his skin - Strettle runs on high speed fuel - pitty he had to go off
and man mountain Vainikolo - dare I say a little one dimentional yesterday - the management need to use his buik in a more creative way - Jonny - well apart from one aweful pass and a missed kick solid - wish we had a James Hook around the fringes

I know its a new look squad - but lets get the spirit back into England what ever it takes, England should of never have lost, but the Welsh took it from us and good look to them

Possibly something to do with the style of play from his old Code combined with the 'battering ram' southern hemisphere mentality? But from my seat (in front of telly!) he did seem to do some good things - in the first half, anyway...

Ah yes, the first half ... and then the small matter of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory!

You mercifully avoid mention of Balshaw. Oh dear. "When he's good, he's very, very good; but when he's bad he's horrid."

As we go into the rebuild after the post-World Cup retirements, I'm sure (and hope!) that Ashton will want to try out a number of new up-and-coming players; and predict that some well-known or moderately well-known names may well not be with us.

That would be an extreme punishment for under-performance, James!

This isn't Colombia you know!

And as time goes on, and the sifting continues, I suspect that Frank Haddon will deploy the same strategy.

Offers that people can't refuse. Shape up or ship out. Gotta get tough if we're gonna face the new-out-of-the-box French, let alone Southern Hemisphere.

Grrr....

I agree with pretty much all you've written here, Anthony. I was also with a Welshman and he enjoyed himself. Good luck to the Welsh - they deserved it. I am sure they will do well under Gatland and Edwards and will gain a lot of confidence from this victory.

I am not too bothered by the England defeat - there were enough good points, especially in the first hour of the game and plenty for them to build on. They maybe needed to make these mistakes in order to learn. I still believe that we have the greatest pool of young talent ever at England's disposal at the moment and they will mould into England's best ever team with the right guidance.

Strettle showed in 12 minutes exactly what we missed at the world cup and Geraghty in Friday night's Saxons game carried on where he left off from last year's Six Nations. There were other notable performances from Jordan Crane and Delon Armitage.

I think the biggest worry at the moment is the amount these youngsters currently seem to spend injured.

It'll come.

ps. Sorry I didn't catch you at the game Anthony, but I couldn't really leave my customers who were in full swing in the 'Twickenham Chalet'.

What a shocking second half.

Too bloody true. I sat up in the stands watching it unravel and dedicded that if I drank more Guiness it would sort itself out. It didn't. Last ten minutes passed in a blur.

Well there is the Italy game to look forward to,

Can we start blamming injuries yet Eek

NO we need to re group get the same players (apart from those injured) and give it another go - We can't win the triple crown and would suggest either France or more likley Island for title.

Or bring in some Saxons players to get the job done - or send the Tigers first XV !! Big Grin
