Well here it is then, started...

A place for discussion of all things Rugby, whether club, national or international...
The next joy we have to look forward to is the Rugby World Cup. (I imagine it is at this point some of the NZ forum members will join in...)
Any comments, chaps? Or still a bit too early?

It was a great day out. Sorry we did not see any Forum members. Although I wanted Tigers to win, the honours went to the better side on the day. When Lol left the field it was very moving; fab stuff, glad I was there.

David,
JamieWednesday, Chillkram and I at the dizzy heights of Block U46 (above the SouthCol Goal) took off our oxygen masks for a few minutes to discuss whether it would be a fun idea next year to rally the Forum rugby fans for what is a very enjoyable day out (whoever's playing), buying tickets for good seats together at the time they go on sale.

Thought I'd bump up the thread as not enough gloating has gone on yet!

I got an email today saying tickets for next years final are on sale soon(!) - perhaps if we start collecting numbers for anyone interested in attending next year's game?
Oh, nearly forgot...

Gloat away old boy.
I happened to have a lovely day out with m'boy and m'chums, and hey, the game didn't go my way on this occasion. The better team on the day won.
And JWM jnr is v keen on a Welford Road Season Ticket for next season.
All in all, a very encouraging day.

Are you sure you don't mean Adams Park?

Thanks James.
We were across in U2. Our first time up so high. It was great.
I try and get over for most of the internationals at Twickenham and have 4 debentures in the Lower East stand at the half way mark. So it would be fun to meet up.

Well you can certainly put me down for the trip, James. It would be fun to organise a proper Forum Rugby Club day out with a few members as we were discussing at Twickenham last year.

As I predicted, Loffreda's out. Even allowing for a bedding-in season (or most of), Tigers simply lacked sparkle, with no signs of it getting better. An appointment made with great hope and anticipation. Sadly for all concerned it didn't work out on this occasion.
I wonder who Leicester will be getting next?

?
England's loss could be Tiger's gain. If this appointment is made could we not swap bosses between Welford Rd and Twickenham?

What was wrong with Richard Cockerill?
He was doing a good job before the Argi was appointed, advantage, he knows the tigers way, disadvantage, he needs a few more years understudying a good manager for more experience.
White with Cockerill as 2nd in command? tempting!

Indeed.
And in a similar vein, I think Neil Back and Austin Healey also have much to commend them. Especially I think Neil Back.
Leicester is a club with the highest ambition. And they have a proven track record. I know they were (sadly) well-beaten in the HC Final last year, but the reality is that in 2007 they almost pulled off the Treble and did pull off the Double. I can see why they would want a big name Coach.
Although Loffreda certainly did wonders with Argentina, producing one of the most entertaining teams of the 2007 RWC, I just don't think he was familiar enough with the world and culture of English Premiership Rugby Football (many of Argentina's wonderful players were/are, afterall, amateurs, and sadly Argentina do not have a world quality league for either clubs or Country).
RWC winning coach Jake White certainly has the stature. I think his background would be much more suited to our set-up. I can't believe he would turn out to be a damp squib.
Yet, like English players in club sides, I do think that there should be proper opportunities for English coaches to rise to the top level. And 'Mr Wasps' Larry da Blubbio is not the only loyal club servant who, like seaside rock, has the name of their club written through them, through and through...
Leicester has, and does, produce some wonderful players, some even from the Leicestershire homeland (the land of my late mother and ancestors)! I am sure that many of them can/will/do make excellent coaches too.
So there needs to be an effective programme/opportunity to build and develop them. It is a truism that you learn on the job - successes and failures build you. But it is a risky strategy in the cut'n'thrust world of modern Rugby Football. If it comes off, brilliant. If it doesn't, dear oh dear...

Whereas Richard Cockerill and Neil Back have. I quite fancy NB in a seconday role as his inside knowledge is invaluable.
Austin Healey was mentioned on the local radio station but not for me. He has no managerial knowledge and some of his tactics had too much flair but not enough common sence at times. He would also have to give up his glamerous role as a TV presenter> I also feel he's been away from the game playing wise for a couple of years and even though thats only a small gap I think English club rugby has moved on rapidly in the last few years.
As for the All Blacks, it could be embarasing. New Zealand have moved forward since we won the world cup but the English national team has gone bacwards a decade,

The All Blacks looked absolutely awesome in their forward play. They are so dynamic and powerful that England could be totally overwhelmed. In better conditions than they enjoyed yesterday the ABs could really cut loose and set their backs free. If they do it could be rather difficult for England.
The Boks also made the Grand Slam champions look third rate.
The England Saxons played well though, as they always seem to. Whether that's because they are always playing inferior opposition or they have more adventurous management, I don't know, but I usually prefer watching them to the senior team.

I hope so...
The Irish had a bloody good game, and for a while could have come up trumps, especially with White being in a particular nazi mood.
There is still a fair way to go before this AB team gels properly, with a few fundamental errors that should never have been made like letting the ball bounce after kick off!
Rusty is probably how best to describe the match, so until they gel as a team, could be embarrased by a reasonable team - I just hope that it aint the poms

But here's a prediction - the AB's will domonate the world for the next 3 years before choking in 2011

Here's another one - England will be utter crap for the next 3 years before appearing in the World Cup Final in 2011.
