Well here it is then, started... Big Grin

A place for discussion of all things Rugby, whether club, national or international...

The next joy we have to look forward to is the Rugby World Cup. (I imagine it is at this point some of the NZ forum members will join in...)

Any comments, chaps? Or still a bit too early?

A 30-20 defeat to the All Blacks was not so bad after all in the end. It could have been much worse.

Yeah it could have been 37-20 if they'd got that last try and converted it... Winker

Yeah, but they didn't! Razz

Mark, is the forum's downtime still hurting or something..?

Still, at least we stuffed them in the ODI. Did you see Pieterson's switch hits? Bloody hell, I wish I could hit those half as far, right handed, against a pissed up pub team.

Nah, just fed up with the blatantly forward passes they continually get away with and the knock on for that second try that should have been a scrum to England.

Clearly NZ were a far better team and the result could have been far worse, but no other team consistently gets away with the forward passes they do.

A shame because, other than that, I love to watch them play.

Rob Andrew turning into a spin doctor is the last thing that England need. He is a complete waste of space. Hopeless.
I thought the England performance was not so bad, despite Rob Andrew. But they were outclassed and the English backs were far too slow to develop any real threat.

What happened to Jake White?
Posted on: 17 June 2008 by JWM
I think Neil Back has been watching The Apprentice a bit too much, and thinks he's in the boardroom with Sir AS arguing the case...

But in an earlier post I stated my opinion about Tigers' homegrown coaching talent, including Neil Back whom I hold in high regard.

One thing about Jake White is that he didn't get the job last time. Perhaps there's a policy of not re-interviewing unsuccessful candidates Eek or the Board trying to save egg on face Roll Eyes??!

There are a number of candidates under consideration. An announcement is not due for at least another week.

Don't fancy yours much!

The Munster group looks a bit of a challenge!

Could have been worse for England today. I thought they matched the All Blacks in many areas of play. The ABs were just far more clinical at finishing and England were awful in defence. But England could have had two tries themselves and it would have been a different game.

Johnno needs to get a grip of the defence and drill the players to be a bit more accurate with the passing and a bit more inventive with the movement.

Haskell had a great game today, I thought he was the best player on the pitch after Carter.

You rang Winker

Good day yesterday. Plenty of injuries though on both sides so quite a tough game and plenty of commitment from both teams.

Many comments about how the AB's will go against SA. I watched the majority of the SA vs Italy game and they don't look head and shoulders over anyone else. Aus and NZ will fancy their chances.

Should be a good tournament, Jay. Australia are improving and their backs are always dangerous. NZ are coming to the boil quite nicely but they do need to fix their lineout to compete with SA.

I will be supporting the All Blacks in the Tri-Nations as I always do in that competition.

Do you know what rules will be played?

I don't actually! I would presume the new ones as the teams will be familiar.

Good to have you on board for the tournament. I've inherited the England football team with the proviso I don't have to mount the St George on my motor Smile

What an exciting week in the story of English Rugby Union Football.

A very promising-looking South African Coach for the Tigers in Heneker Meyer, with corresponding departure of unsuccessful home-grown candidate Neil Back and colleague to Leeds.

And a 'night of the long knives' from England's new boss, old-Tiger Jonno, who is also making (to my mind welcome) comments about discipline. Jonno's decisions seem fairly sensible. And, whatever, he had to do something dramatic to mark a definite arrival. Long live a clear and direct approach! No more equivocation and flannel!

Finger-crossed, James.

I would be worried about my position if I were Rob Andrew, though.

Flip! I missed the ABs v Springboks! Did anyone see the game? I've seen the score, but how did it pan out?

I've only seen the first half when the Boks had managed to get within a point after 35 odd minutes (9-8).

Weather was atrocious in my home town, once again! Brad Thorn should've been carded after getting a little nasty with number 2, can't remember his name.

The report I've read doesn't seen to have a lot of second half detail which probably means tough and dullish. AB's managed to put on a further 10 with the Boks coming up empty.

Some very clever play by Carter and Conrad Smith early on. Ali Williams just about delivered the kick of the half with a first rate touch finder falling just over the line with help from the wind.

Thanks Jay. I'll try to catch the replay.

It was a tough brutal game in horrible conditions - exactly what is expected between the 2 teams.
Both teams were (as usual) getting away with whatever foul play they could, hamming it up to the ref, who in turn had had a so-so game.

Mark - the big hits were huge, and well worth watching the game just to see them.

Great game today between Australia and the ABs. Australia really are becoming a force again in world rugby and looking very impressive.

New Zealand without McCaw look a bit rudderless and weren't their usual dynamic selves, I thought. Carter had a good game as did Muliaina but the rest were not at the races today.
