Best sub £1000 bookshelf speakers

Posted by: stevie d on 17 October 2003

Hi

By the end of november I hope to replace my B&W602S3's with some new bookshelf speakers (Not enought room for floorstanding Red Face). I have about £1000 to spend and would like to hear ideas about what people think is a good buy.

I have heard that the B&W 705's are good but what can I put them against in a demo.

I have the following CD5/112/150. The speakers will be on soundstyle XS122's

They would also have to be available in a light wood (beechy). I am under strict orders from the style police!!

Thanks
Stevie

Yep - I've got original (non bi-wire) Linn Kans, bought new in the mid 80's. Mine are on Kan II stands.
At the time, Linn just had three speakers in the range: Kans/Saras/Isobariks and there wasn't really too much competition. Things have changed a bit now so it is worth listening to a few options before buying (without floor stands if that's how you intend to use them).

Has anybody here ever listened to any speakers from the PMC range. They are another speaker that I have heard good things about

We have just ordered the new Dynaudio 52SE.
At $1400 USD should be a winner. I'll let you
know how close they come to Contour S1.4.
Should be here in Edmonton within 10 days -
and then its break-in time.
