Naim forum software - inadequate?
Posted by: bhaagensen on 04 January 2010
Hi,
I guess the rather limited functionality of the forum software is by choice - and I'm mostly fine with limited features.
I have two major issues though (that may well be due to me overlooking something)
1. Is there no way of getting notified, preferably by email, of new messages in threads that one has either posted in, or explicetly chosen to receive such updates from. I have enabled "Immediate Notification by Email" under Posting Options in the Preference section.
2. Monitoring long threads, specifically multipage, always requires at least an extra (unnecessary) click. First one to get into the thread itself, then one to get to the specific page one wishes to visit - which is often the last. Is it not possible to include a subpage link in the thread overview?

Hi Bjørn,
Regarding your second issue: when following long threads I always click on the nickname of the user proving the last post in the thread overview (see the column on the right)...
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Michel

RSS is needed! This is what I have been moaning about the lack of features from this forum.

Klout10: Indeed I had overlooked that. It takes care of most of my complaint in this regard. Thanks.
Peter Dinh: RSS, yes please!
Any takes on the first issue?

munch: I see, so my email-request still stands.
Out of curiosity are the permissions [which I'm assuming you refer to] based on time spent as member, number of posts, a combination, or perhaps something else?

Perhaps Naim should spend more time creating a super-duper we site/forum and less energy on creating great hi-fi equipment ..... hmmmm .... no that doesn't work or they'd be called Cambridge Audio

There was once a guy on this forum (called Adam I think) who used to evangelise on the merits of emoticons, private messaging and a 'for sale & ebay' section.
I'm glad to see he's now fallen in line...

Adam on an Eve powered forum?
Would you believe it?
Pull the other one.

OK, pending further acclimatisation, I shall let my outrageous request stand then.
Of course, by historic evidence I too shall eventually fall in, at which point the chances of me remembering to remove this - anomality - would be greatly enhanced by a proper set of thread-watching tools.
Oh, well.

This is, still, a family forum. Well done though.
And Happy New Year to you - and all (I suppose).

Adam, it's fantastic to have you back!
You have been missed.
And I now seem to be, officially this time, an Old Git. ;-)

Like a passing wind I briefly brush the cheeks and am gone.
Life is all faintly copacetic - rather a lot of cycling, reading and listening to music but I manage the odd moment of pleasure.
I don't know if it is the exercise but those old, persistent pains in my buttocks seem no longer to trouble me. Thank you for asking.

BigH is just about to object to you calling him old.....
And not for the first time I've had to look up words that Adam has used, my education continues.

Gratuitous. You have not been charged for this call.

FW are you saying Adam called me a pain in the buttocks?
I knew that word he used, (for a change).
Look up the derivation ,it's quite interesting.
