New to Naim

Posted by: MichaelC on 26 January 2003

I have been looking at upgrading my system recently. I was originally taking the Linn route until I recovered my senses (!) and auditioned some Naim amplification.

My system is currently an LP12 Cirkus Lingo Ittock LVIII Ortofon MC30 Supreme, Linn Ikemi, Linn Majik-I, Linn Keilidhs.

I have been looking at the forum on and off over the past month and the way to go appears
to be:

102/180 and Hicap

Bearing in mind that I will also have to budget for new interconnects and some NacA5 cable, will it be worthwhile holding off for a little while longer to save the extra pennies for an 82?

I guess after sorting out the amplification the next step will be changing the Ikemi to the CDX?

I would be grateful for your comments, advice, do's and don'ts, etc.

Welcome aboard.

My usual caveat to Journeymen:-

One of the great things about Naim is the excellent dealer network. From a good dealer (and Naim themselves), you will get sensible advice.

Here; you may get paranoia (myself included).

It's a bit naughty to waste a dealer's time if you intend to buy s/h kit elsewhere, but then it's up to the dealer to wow you with a convincing demonstration of what he has available.

You can't go wrong really, as virtually everything can be rejuvenated at Salisbury, if you don't mind paying for it.

Just be aware that the new range of amps sound quite different to the old stuff. Both are excellent with different sonic attributes.

A good dealer should be able to make this clear.

Good luck.
