CDXII against CDX and CDX/XPS
Posted by: Reto D on 22 November 2002
Hi,
Did anybody compare these two CDP's. I guess CDX/XPS must still be better....
If not how good must a CDSIII be then.....

PS: A German hifi mag says that CDXII is quite a lot better than the old CDX!
Original text: you can spend hours listening to it and you'll never get bored.
Seems that we can look forward to the new line...
and spend our holidays at home :-))

One would assume that CDX2 is better than CDX. But another very interesting comparison would be CDX2/(new)XPS against CDSII/(old)XPS.

HiFi FoFum has both machines with their XPS and the entire new series classic (including the NAP300) and Naim Fraim. Perhaps he can give his assessment on this matters. Tuan.

When are the dealers expecting delivery of the new CDX2?
I would like to do the CDX/CDX2 and even the CDX2/CDSII myself.
Regards

My CDX2/XPS has left Salisbury on Friday.
I should have them on Wednesday.

Right Steve.
And even on Wednesday, it will be a cold (I'm in Canada!
) and brand new one.
I'll try to post my first impressions of CDX vs cold CDX2 (if it is listenable after a 24 hours warming).
Included in the shipment is 200,202,250.
I have already got 252/new SC, 300, new HC for one week.
I will compare new vs old units when every thing will be settled, but subject to availability of old stock. I still have 82,52,SC,Hi,250,CDX.
What i have experimented is the obvious huge improvement of the 200/202 combo over the 180/102.
I would even say that a 200/202/NAPSC(new) is better than a 180/102/Hicap/NAPSC. But this first impression (more involvement) will have to be confirmed by direct comparison.

Alex
My 52/SC was on loan last week, I'll get it back tomorrow.
I'll be able to compare 52 vs 252 and old vs new SC in the following days. New 252 and SC now have one week (continuous play) burn-in. It's not perfect but they should start to show their potential.
The problem i had these days is the lack of great sources: no more old CDX, XPS available (so useless CDS2), a friend of mine loan me his CDX; and the LP12 is in a refurb phase (ARO just rebuilt, cart on order, geddon to come).

Yes you right!
I am eager to upgrade to CDX2/XPS, 252/Super/300 and am looking forward to hearing this and getting feedback from the forum on the new range.
Perhaps I am being a little impatient but I have money burning a hole in my bank account!!

Eric,
if I understand correctly, the new XPS has been 'renamed' to XPS2, to signify some upgrades.
Although I've briefly heard a CDX2, it was in an unfamiliar system, and a long time since I last heard a CDX. Sounded promising, though.
cheers, Martin

What i can tell you now is:
A 48h CDX2/XPS2 completly blows a CDS1/CDPS on all fields. Both kits have played continuously for 48h from cold for CDS (tuned-up) and from brand new for CDX2 both on Fraims.
A 24h CDX2 is MUCH better than a CDX (powered for 2 weeks): more emotion, more details, more timming, more image. CDX/XPS will have to be compared to CDX2 alone when setteled (yes it is good at this point, I know ... the XPS will make it, but ...).
The new 250 is very heavy, waiting for one "old" to compare (how it sounds of course).
252 and 300 now have about 500h (correction: 350h for the 300), that's fantastic with SL2: weight, scale, dynamics...What will they do to my NBL?
All new units will reach 200 hours of continuous play at the begining of next week. We will be able to start playing to do all mixes.
A hint: a good test for timming and dynamics: NAIM CD028, the first 2 notes (piano), track 1. I'm not a fan of Chopin's solo piano, but i rediscovered this CD with the new kit, it is full of emotions. This guy (Gimse) is good.
Poor kids, many will have no present for Christmas this year, or only a CD.

I'll do all these tests this week.
I didn't open the new units, so don't known what has changed. Naim has said they have done major rework for the XPS.
Old XPS will work with CDS3.
