Frank Zappa, DVD-A & Naim DAC
Posted by: Hot Rats on 27 May 2010
I purchased both DVD-A releases by Frank Zappa when they were released.
Both 'Halloween' and 'QuAUDIOPHILIAc' are pretty good albums but until now I have only been able to play them through the surround system in the reception room that houses my television. This system comprises budget level components, Pioneer DVD-A compatible DVD player, Yamaha surround amplifier and a set of Tannoy speakers with small sub-woofer. While this equipment is great for the outlay, it is a poor substitute for my Naim system when listening to music.
I discovered today that the latest version of DVD Audio Extractor (Version 5.1.1) is able to rip 24/96 audio from DVD-A discs (Previous versions could only rip 24/48). I ripped 'Halloween' to my hard drive and then copied it to a USB stick. It sounded great through the DAC.
A fully functional 30 day trial of DVD Audio Extractor 5.1.1 can be downloaded from:

I thought this might interest you Patrick. I presume that your location of 'The Purple Lagoon' is not coincidental!
