What tracks are good demo tracks depend, in large part on what your own tastes are. Take along a few of your favourite discs and you can't really go wrong.

I usually take a few fave albums that i have recently bought and listened to (a current playlist if you will) and a few albums that i have loved for years. Also an album that i know to be a rough recording to see how it will sound on different kit.

For rock music I'm a long time Zep admirer - their music that is, not the production quaity of their albums. For recent demming I particularly found Robert Plant's latest album Mighty Rearranger superb - there's alot going on with some tracks and subtleties sprinkled through it which some systems just don't reveal.

Cammell Laird Social Club by HMHB if The Light At The End Of The Tunnel (Is The Light Of An Oncoming Train) doesn't sound great then something is very wrong. In fact any HMHB should sound great.

Otherwise try 12 Dreams Of Dr Sardonicus by Spirit or Green River by Creedence Clearwater Revival. These are two of the best rock albums ever made and should sound superb.

I guess it depends on how "heavy" your rock is.
How about some early ish Radiohead, eg The Bends or Blackstar,
REM around the "Document",or Murmer era ( if you can make out the lyrics, your system is doing well)
The Blue aeroplanes,
XTC,"Ballad of peter pumpkinhead"
The Honeydogs "Here's Luck", or "10,000 years" (some well recorded drums on these albums)
Peter Gabriels infamous "Sledgehammer". Its probably SO overused as a test track, but great for bass & detail of all the separate instruments
Jellyfiish's album "Bellybutton"
I hope one or two of those floats your boat.
