Setting the bass xover

Posted by: IWC Doppel on 17 June 2010

Gents,

I am confused with the settings and manual for my AV2, I have been using the AV2 exclusively with analogue in from a Denon 3800.

I have set all of the appropriate settings, sorted all the cables for V1, V2 and have been using this for a few months now. I am very pleased with the sonic performance so far.

As people might know the bass management is set in the player along with distances and levels with this configuration.

I want to compare this arrangement to using the AV2 with DVD film tracks and BR tracks so I can listen to the DTS or other tracks processed in the AV2.

I have run through all the settings from the manual and set, speaker levels, distances and utilised Auto to find 3/2/1. No problems.

However I can't find in the manual how I arrange the xover from the speakers to the sub. I have found in my room setting all to small and xover at 50hz to a room equalised sub to be the most successful with previous equipment. Even though I have full range speakers in this set up. (I will experiment again in any event)

I simply cannot find where to set the xover point to the sub ? Is it hidden somewhere ?

Tks

You might have the older AV2 manual..? I know the 2002 (issue 5) doesn't show the frequency cut off in the set up list, nor even mention the function, so perhaps this was a older firmware or something - I don't know..

The DVD5/AV2 manual does cover it, as referenced by Occean.

You should come across the function when you are skipping through the speaker set up routine on the AV2 - As you turn the dial you should get to SBF - where you can enter a figure between 40 - 140 (Hz).

Yup, old firmware by the sound of it. IWC, if you can't find it then you'll need to have your AV2 updated.

Thanks guys,

I actually think when I set it up there was something that I flickedover that was set to 60 from memory. I might have the right software !

I put my original manaul in the box as I had printed one out from the old forum, 2-3 months ago, this was probably and early manual. I'll print out another Winker

Can't remember what speakers you've got. With digital input and n-System, recommended setting is indeed 60 IIRC.

I run 7 x 135's (bi amping fronts) with Sonus Fabers all round. Extrema F, Cermona Center, Elector Amator rears.

The extremas stay within 3db to 27hz according to stereophile, So I could run well below 60. I will try 50, 40 etc and see how I get on.
