New Cartridge

Hi,
My LP12 is in for a service, and whilst there I've had the Troika sent away to be checked. My suspicions are confirmed, and the cartridge is past it's best. I've now got to decide what to do. My options appear to be:
1.Linn rebuild
2.Expert Stylus etc rebuild
3.Another new cartridge.
My 82 has internal k boards, and one of the reasons I considered a rebuild was the cost of new boards if I needed to change them. My dealer has recommended a Dynavector 17 as a good replacement, but the boards would need changing so the total cost would be more than a Linn rebuild.

So, what suitable cartridges are available that are compatible with K boards apart from Linn, bearing in mind I don't want to spend any more than the £500 Linn rebuild cost.

Cheers

Ade

Stephan,

How would you characterize the sound of the 17D2? I am looking for a replacement for my 11yr old ATOC7 (in a Xerxes/Artemiz) and have heard good things about the 17D2. However the chances of auditioning cartridges these days is slim to none.

Does anyone have any other recommendations in the UKP300-600 price range?

I think I may go the non-Linn rebuild route.
Tyson, what is the web address of Len Gregory?

While I'm on the subject, is there a relatively cheap way of improving on the internal boards by using a seperate phono stage, but without going down the Naim route of phono stage/Cap, as the next Hicap I get I would like to use with the first one on my 82, and I can't afford yet another one to power a Prefix.
Basically, what's the cheapest phono stage available that's better than internal K boards.

Cheers
