552
Posted by: Paul Stephenson on 09 June 2002
In some 20+ years at Naim I have had some pretty big milestone moments of sounds. Today with my 552 at home was another huge step. I started the day with cornflakes and the dreadzone-second light and have just come up to breathe!
Absolutely amazing sounds, just take any opportunity you can get to listen to this one!

"If this is what "upgraditis" is leading to, I guess my wife will have me put away in a mental hospital or something..."
Look on the bright side, you won't get out too much but the music will win over lots of new friends.

Drool, drool, drool... - nicely put Paul.
Building on Arthur's comment - this will seriously test the holiday/motor/house/booze/etc... ratio of many forum members (maybe to the point of divorce)

Well, if you're "married" to your Naim, you're just fine...
But to be serious, not sure, it'll take a lot of massaging, both the wife and the wallet!

Paul said the differance was like:
O Dear!!
sounds like the 52 is not quite the "finest and most musical performance available" then, as per the Naim website.

mmmm....I do sometimes feel pangs of guilt that we supply something so addictive....but at least it works....and it's good for you ....(hey what a concept;)....
And maybe you can be more productive (assuming you've mastered the art of self-control and self-disipline [sic])....yes, you to can play once your homework is done....
....and as an added consequence - when applicable - nicer to her indoors as a result....(wink,wink)...
Oh and think of it this way; Amortise the cost out over the next 25 years, cos the 552/500 - I can assure you - is a keeper;)
regards
Chris

"Does this imply that the amazing 552 breaks with tradition in not requiring a prerequisite burn-in period? I for one would welcome this, as past"
I wish, No my listening session was really after day 3,in the past in my sytem a new -preamp has taken about 3 -4 weeks. Day 1 I could tell the improvement but the following days the hifi begins to disappear and just the music comes through. I am delighted with the way it is performing now but know there is plenty more to come.
I use an active dbl 3x500 set up powered via a naim hydra.

Paul,
is this Hydra that you refer to going to be sold to the masses? If so, when... and will it come in multiple configurations?

Oh yeah we have heard that one before - in fact I have even used that expression every 2 or 3 years my self
And do not forget that you are all going to go thru this temptation torture again in a few months time when the dribbles of info about the CDSiii? seep out from under the R&D lab door at Stephenson Towers
I just cannot wait
All you source first chappies will be cancelling orders for the 552 in order to get the CDSiii?

Derek, I don't think naim intend to replace the 552/500 in the next 2 or 3 years...
At least it's not "Fawlty towers"
Chris West
Naim USA.
