first spin suggestions on just serviced gear
Posted by: Dan M on 25 September 2002
Tomorrow I should get my pre/power combo back from NANA and I'm really looking forward to listening to my lp12 again. So out of curiosity, what LP (or cd) do you reach for when you either testing out a new piece of gear or have been away from your 'sistem!' for a while? I usually grab some MJQ or Bill Evans, but I've got a new copy of the Buena Vista Social Club and Colplay's latest sitting to be played.

1. Richard Galiano & Michel Portal "Blow up"
2. Pat Metheny & Charlie Haden "Missouri sky"
3. Any good classic release
Enjoy!

With me it's always been the following:-
Van Morrison "It's Too Late To Stop Now"
Miles Davis "Kind of Blue"
Stones "Let It Bleed"
Fairport Convention "Liege & Lief"
Anything by Richard Thompson, Dave Holland, Cowboy Junkies or Little Feat.
I do buy current stuff too though!

Yep, I often reach for some Miles Davis as well,
or perhaps Monk. As far as newer stuff, another favorite is Soul Mining by The The, which often leads to a late night of early eighties nostalgia - Husker Du, Minutemen, New Order, Style Council, Smiths... Not very hi-fi but a lot of fun.
SO anyone else want to weigh in on this one - come on,imagine youve just plugged in some new gear (let's say one of those audiogon nac52s) and you're looking over at your cds/lps - what do you reach for?
cheers, Dan

This is a great album. I'm not a country fan at all but I picked up this 3 lp album a month back following some good press. Maybe its all the chatter between tracks but you really feel like your sitting in on a live performance.
