The O2 Arena

Has anyone been there yet? Apparently it's very good acoustically, for sightlines and for bars/catering but I'm interested in what it's like. Does it have a good atmosphere?

I'm going to see the Stones and the White Stripes there later this year and I'm curious as to what to expect. Someone I know went to see Snow Patrol (zzz) there recently and said while it was impressive it lacked atmosphere - but of course she was watching Snow Patrol and that may have had something to do with it...

hi kevin,
my friend went on saturday to see the boxing and hasnt stopped raving about the place. he reckons its superb for atmosphere and is the best indoor arena hes been to. hes been to many gigs before and loved it. granted a boxing events not a live gig but you should enjoy it all the same.

A guy on BBC Radio London was talking earlier today about the boxing, and also said it was the best indoor arena he'd been to, with a fantastic atmosphere and a brilliant view, even from up in the gods.

So it's looking good...

The words "atmosphere" and "Arena" don't gel too well for me, at 20,000 punters it's almost twice the capacity of Wembley arena which is of course a huge toilet (although Springsteen did manage to shrink the place on his last tour through here)unless you stand somewhere near the front, If it's seated it's dreadful, so even with good sight lines (which Wembley has also) I can't see how it's going to improve the "area experience". I caught The White Stripes at Dingwalls in I think 2000, amazing gig but that's 200 people, Jack and Meg at the O2 it's all got a bit silly. Bands seem to gravitate from very small gigs to arenas in no time at all now, there ought to be a law that makes them play the Shep Bush Empire etc etc before thay graduate to bigger venues. The temptation for an act to play one night at O2 instead of two at Wembley Arena beckons. So says Mr Grumpy!

Having seen the "Stones" in a field, an "Arena" and a stadium , I confirm that you are quite correct they are a very effective beat combo, although these days there is an element of pantomine to contend with of course.
