Spur and Sockets - v - alternatives

Posted by: Malcolm Davey on 05 February 2001

This is my first time on the forum and I would appreciate any guidance regarding the following....An electrician is installing a seperate spur for the hifi now for the choices...
Do I

1 Have say 10 sockets fitted to this and if so any preference for type. I know Incatech Gold were once popular

2 Only a couple of sockets and then go for a quality extension lead (I already have one but....)

Does the type of mains board matter

Any advice/guidance would be greatfully receeived

Mark,

You lost me on all the earth talk, but I too lived in Bromley some years ago and taught German at the Ravensbourne School – does that ring the proverbial bell?

Hi Thomas:

I went to Langley Park (boys, naturally) but I know Ravensbourne school. They'd ritually kick our butt at rugby every winter and we'd return the favor when the athletics season came in the summer. Let me say, getting beaten at track and field probably hurts a lot less than losing at rugby!

Were we separated at birth? I used to live in Bromley, Kent... just up the road from you!

I've only lived here for 7 years or so, so it's unlikely - small world though wink

Are you implying that Naim equipment will be more susceptible to RF fields and conducted noise in space than it will when it's 0v network is connected to mother earth through a few metres of wire?

Yes I am saying that, the difference is that the RF generated by man is likely to have much lower field strengths in space. Many signals will not penetrate the atospheric layers, and since the signal strength drops in an inverse square law relationship, signals strengths very soon become miniscule.

Ultimately though I believe your system will sound worse in space!

As Mark says, it's a very easy hypothesis to check, but safety first, the mains earth is there for more than one reason!

Andy.
