What piece of music are you most embarrassed to admit to liking?

Come on now, be honest, you know it's good for your soul - what music are you most embarrassed to admit to liking - (and where do you keep it hidden?)
To start the ball rolling I admit to liking a Geroge Michael song called 'cowboys and angels', several John Denver songs, life on mars and starman by David Bowie (a man I find to be truly repulsive)and metal guru by Marc Bolan.
As a schoolboy back in the 70s I was embarrassed to admit the very first record I ever bought was the famous duet from the Peal fishers by Bizet sang by jussi Bjorling and Robert Merril and I adored Gregorian Chant - classical music/opera has been my love from an early age but sometimes a contempory pop/rock tune just seems to resonate even though I may hate other stuff by the same artist - weird innit?
I dont own any of the 'embarrassing stuff mentioned above except for the John Denver which I hide under the floorboards.

Dear Eric,
Can I admit to owning Brothers in Arms and Alchemy, both by Dire Staits! I also have the Doors' The Doors. And some Buddy Holly, some Edith Piaf, Ella...
I seem to have no idea what is embarrassing!
Apart from about 800 CDs of Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Bruckner, well that's most of the Bs, anyhow. You get the picture.
Tell what is cringe-worthy, and I'll remember to cringe at the appropriate moments!
Fredrik
PS: Got the Train Spotting CD, but I only like some parts, and I cannot remember the names, so that possibly saved some embarrassment!

I sometimes listen to Richard Thompson when I'm pissed.

I suppose it depends on your point of view, whether your choice is genuinely cringeworthy or simply unfashionable.
Certainly I've got a number of records that simply do not get played because they were a mistake, bought unheard.
In my case I admit to owning "Only Yesterday" a Carpenters greatest hits album which is full of cheesy or saccharine sweet songs, but Karen Carpenter simply has a fabulous voice.
Confession over

I will admit to liking the soundtrack from Disney's "Aristocats".

There´s nothing wrong in liking Life on mars.
It´s one of the gratest popsongs ever written.
Perhaps you should buy some of the albums that this repulsive man has produced and discover some great music? Just a thought.

Well, I've got Saints and Sinners by All Saints, and it ain't half bad. It's got Pure Shores and Black Coffee on it.

I have nothing that I am embarrassed about; if other people don't like it, so what?

My sentiment exactly. You like what you like and the rest of the world can go hang. If you can't be happy and please yourself then what hope is there? Let the sheep get on with it and do what suits you.

Agreed, but please let me quote you when SWMBO rolls her eyes despairingly when I give Pinky and Perky's rendition of Teddy Bears Picnic a spin on the LP12

ROTF! It's a shame that artistic differences offed them. I don't think they realised their full potential. Still, one person's failed act is another person's sandwich.

Erik
I have the soundtrack to Mary Poppins which I was forced to buy by my mother after winning a record token (4th prize) in a conmpetition run by Finn shoes (could explain a lot that).
Just so I can deal with this once and for all I also still own a copy of the Best of the Stylistics, which, before anyone asks, is an LP.

Yes, I love 'life on mars' but whether it is one of the greatest pop songs ever written is purely a point of view just as my view of David Bowie is mere personal opinion - the guy just makes me sick, is that his fault? I don't say it is his fault - it's just my view as is the fact that I have heard much if not all of his other output and it just fails to resonate in the same way - I dont know why, it just doesn't indeed much of his work makes me sick and this is why my question (meant to be a lighthearted exercise and not to be taken too seriously)nonetheless raises an interesting point - how is that we can like a piece of music which is in so many ways completely out of character with our usual tastes?

Deep deep breath
I own The Darkness - Permission to land.
Because, err, because I like the sound of a Les Paul thru a Marshall stack, honest. (What a good excuse)
Forgive me.

I have a couple of albums in my collection that I'm totally embarrassed to own - I'm not sure if qualifies because I don't actually like it - Trick of the Tail by Genesis. I'm not embarrassed at all by owing all the Genesis albums up to Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, but why the hell I bought both Trick of the Tail and Wind and Wuthering is beyond me.
However if I'm going to offer records I have and like that I don't like to admidt to then it's Spanish Train and Other Stories by Chris De Burgh. Now I know I'm not supposed to like anything by CDB, and I, like everybody else, hate Lady in Red, but the first album, especially the title track, is pretty damn good. There, I've said it - my secret is out.
I also bought and like Squeeze by Velvet Underground - the album with no real members of VU on it that is not available on CD because VU think it should never have existed, but I quite like it.

Sorry Erik but I can´t make any sense of what you mean by this.
To me it is :
Either it is good or it is not. I don´t care what colour (or what ever) it has, or what other people think. If I like it it´s good enough for me. I don´t dwell on that.

I am just saying that when we like or dislike something we think the quality lies in the object we like or dislike but it does not - it is just in our mind. Im not saying life on mars is great im only saying I like it and yes I agree, it doesnt matter if others like it - why be a sheep, like it and enjoy it by all means.
