Speakers diagonally?

Has anyone tried placing your speakers diagonally, i.e. with one speaker on either side of a corner? What were your findings?

They sound like two seperate speakers with no soundstaging or depth of sound at all.

Its best to stick to the manufacturers recommended speaker set up to get the best out of your speakers.
