Golden Anniversary of The Allegri Quartet

Hi

The Naim Label is proud to join The Allegri Quartet in celebrating their golden anniversary.

The Allegri have been in existence for 50 years, and is the UK’s oldest and longest surviving string quartet. We feel that this is a extraordinary achievement, and are proud to be part of their recording history.

To commemorate this special occasion, The Naim Label is releasing “50th Anniversary of the Allegri Quartet”, (Naim CD074) a collection of highlights from our catalogue with the Quartet. The disc also includes two special guest appearances by the renowned clarinettist James Campbell, and by Patrick Ireland, lead violinist with the original quartet.

The selected recordings highlight the work that the Quartet has recorded with Naim over the past nine years, and feature work by Haydn, Bruch, Shostakovich, Schubert, Stravinsky, Britten, Mozart, Brahms and Beethoven.

This disc is also a superb showcase for the talent of Ken Christianson, who has made these recordings in a variety of venues including the Henry Wood Hall, the Jacqueline du Pre Hall and the Sir Michael Tippett Centre.

There will be a series of concerts in London given by the Allegri this year, also by way of celebration for their 50th Anniversary. Look out for details in the press!

Sounds like a bit of a pointless disc... just buy all the others!

Thank you, Pete.

We wanted to mark this amazing milestone, no other UK based quartet have been around for this long. Releasing a 50th Anniversary collection seemed a fitting tribute, and will be on sale at all their 50th Anniversary concerts, along with a book by Peter Carter on the history of the Quartet.

If you do own all six discs that we have recorded with them, you will already have all the music that is on the Anniversary disc; if you don't but you're curious to see what we have released with them over the past ten years, it's well worth it.
