Have you found....

...that it's becoming increasingly difficult to actually buy certain items from proper shops and not over the internet now?

Agreed, Vinyl records in particular. New cables for Senn 600 phones...

Ye this is becoming a real problem. If you are looking for anything even slightly speciallised the internet is now the first choice. The problem being that I still like to see and feel what I'm about to buy and somehow it's just not the same buying experience just clicking a few bottons and then having to sit back and wait for it to arrive.
The high street has already changed, but it's going to be a very different place in another 5-10 years.

I agree, Gary.
Another issue for me is that for large items or things needing a signature, I can't spend a whole day at home just waiting for something to be delivered - that costs me a whole day's pay. And it's not always convenient to go and collect from some private delivery companies' depots either. I'm only ever at my proper home at weekends anyway and many companies won't deliver then nor to an alternative address that is not your credit card address.
Also I was also searching for a copy of Wuthering Heights (the novel not the record, and not what I would call obscure) yesterday and was a bit shocked that it was impossible to buy anything by the Bronte sisters apart from Jane Eyre in the whole of either Swindon or Northampton!

Agree about the delivery issue. It can be a right pain. It's also one of the biggest problems for us, buying off Ebay. There is rarely anyone home at the right time and you then have to go to the post office sorting office, which only opens at obscure times (shuts at 12.30pm etc)
I actually keep one credit card with my office as the registered address, so that I can have items sent direct to my office.

I don't think shops were ever any good, there is just a terrific amount of choice now. Especially in specialist areas.
Take currys/comet for instance. Always the number one choice for electronics. They still sell the same sorts of stuff, but there is tonnes more choice on line. This is a good thing because Currys is shit and always has been. They will be probably be out of business very soon anyhow as bestbuy is about to hit the uk.
