John Peel Alert II - Great Peel Compilation
Posted by: Ghettoyout on 01 October 2008
Although it came out in April, I've only just found out about it.
There is a compilation called Perfect Unpop Peel Show Hits & Long-Lost Lo-Fi Favourites. Vol.1 1976-80. It contains tracks championed by Peel in that era that were not out and out punk records, but had a pop element to them.
There are some great tracks on it and it is thoroughly recommended. Some personal favourites include Language School by the Tours (according to the notes, Peel's second favourite track of all time), Whips and Furs by the Vibrators, Wreckless Eric with Whole Wide World, the Disco Zombies with their Mary Millington. The list goes on ... the Mo-Dettes, the 45s, Blue Orchids, Au Pairs. I'm sure you get the picture.
It really is a great compilation and is strongly recommended.
That's about it really.
