CD3.5 problem

Posted by: Jude on 18 September 2002

Hi,

I just yesterday bought a beautiful NAIT5 and hooked it up to my second hand CD3.5 and a pair of B&W CDM 1NTs and with in the first 30 seconds of power up trouble began. The CD player started to make a horrible grinding motor noise and before I could power it down it ate the CD and puck. So my question is what do you all think is wrong with my CD3.5? And how much do you think it will cost to fix?

Thanks in advance,
Jude

When you say "ate the CD," precisely what do you mean?

Was it broken into bits?

If not, the chances are there is nothing wrong with your player at all. Some CDs - notably those made in USA are a bit thinner than normal, and the puck doesn't grip them properly. Moreover, if the puck wasn't centred properly on the spindle, you will have lost it somewhere inside the machine.

Regards,

Steve.

It's just a pleasure to hear music as it was intended to be heard.

The Puck didn't grip the CD.
The CD was too thin as said, or the puck you have is worn.
Anyway, if your dealer is not too faraway, visit him to extract the CD and puck and ask him to check the puck.

The puck wasn't the problem. I brought the player in to my local Naim dealer this morning and they opened the case and fished out the CD and puck. However when we tried to play the player we produced no audio out. So it looks like a more serious problem and is now being shipped back to Naim USA. Has anyone had this problem before and if so is it expensive to fix?

Take Care,
