Ultimate Turntable and cartridge used.

After reading the great article in last months HiFi+, I have forgotten the author but after many many happy years with an LP12 + Linn catridge he moved the a Well Tempered with Dynavector. Having moved from the Linn myself a few years ago I'm interested in how others view comparitive turntables. At no point here am I having a go at the LP12 as I was very happy with them for 18 years but I fancied a change and looked at the options and it took a fair time to get the sound of the system right when I had changed.
Since seeing the Poll earlier in the week and noticing a considerable amount of people have systems over 50000 euros I'm fasinated to see what turntables are being used, be it the £15000 or whatever it Clearaudios, £7550 Roksans or whatelse.
So what are the "highend" Turntable/cartridge/Phono stage being used by the forum members. Thanks

Roksan Xerxes, Artemiz, Shiraz, Artaxerxes.
Works wonderfully well with Naim amps

Me, I've stayed faithful to my Linn. I've flirted mildly with other seductive beauties who all offer the thrill of the new in various alluring guises. But I've never truly strayed from my one true love.
Sadly, I can't the same about my wife... but that's a whole different story.

This is a very interesting thread as my dealer has recently been singing the praises of the Well Tempered deck. Having gone a long way with the LP12 over many years he tells the the WT deck has all of the amazing dynamic range of CD but with the best vinyl virtues. I will try an hear one soon I think. Has anyone got one of these decks? they sure look strange.
All the best

I recently had my 1987 LP12/Ittok LVIII rebuilt from the ground up - new motor, Lingo 2, Esco rebuilt Klyde cartidge, Cirkus - and I've never enjoyed my records more.

Richy--
I lived with a Roksan Xerxes X with maxed out PSUs and an Aro for a year. Quite good, though a bit lean for my tastes.
Also lived with a Rega P9, which was also quite good but didn't trip my trigger.
So I've been back to the LP12 with Naim bits and a Troika. Really do need to Supercap the Prefix--maybe when I graduate. When I hear something that notably betters the LP12 across the board, I'll buy it--or at least start saving for it...
Best,
Bob

Roksan Xerxes X w/ DS1.5 psu/ XPS5 controller & TMS2 bearing
Roksan Artemiz tonearm
Dynavector Karat Nova cartridge
47 Labs Phonocube phonostage
If really pressed,I could imagine returning to the LP12 or a P9 but not without a bit of kickin'-n-fussin'.
The vast majority of tables out there simply blow chunks regardless of cost.

Been from LP12/Aro/Lingo to Clearaudio Evolution/Tangent/Sigma and now back to LP12/Armageddon (new style)/Aro/Helikon.
The Clearaudio is, however, ahead on points on the best vinyl, but anything less than perfect vinyl and the Naimed LP12 catches up and passes. The Clearaudio is capable of dynamics, detail and speed way beyond the LP12, but it's a bit too ruthless.
I think the bigger Clearaudio decks must therefore be a long way better than a full monty LP12 (based upon owning one).
That said, going back to an LP12 is a bit like finding an old pair of comfy shoes that you had completely forgotten. They fit, surprisingly well, and they mould to your feet, even if at times they do smell and look a bit tatty...

Used to have a pre-cirkus LP12 with Aro,Armageddon and Dynavector 17D2MkII cartridge on a Mana Reference Table. Made nice tunes but kind of slow sounding as compared to my present Roksan TMS with ARO on Particular Stands.
The Roksan TMS is not as lush sounding as the LP12 in the midrange but has got a get-up-and-go snap to it that simply leaves the LP12 trailing behind. The notes simply start and stop a little faster without overhang.
The Roksan is however a little more revealing of bad recordings whereas the LP12 tend to sound more forgiving and thus said to more "musical". All in all the LP12 is more popular because it is much cheaper than the Roksan.
Anyway this is just my opinion based on my self comparisons. It's like drinking coffee; some people prefer to have it with a bit of milk and sugar and some, like me, prefer it just the way it should be, BLACK.
CHEERS!

I use a Michell Orbe, SMEV, Lyra Helikon, K prefix, Hicap.......(52/scap/135s/ProAc Response 3.5s).......the only improvements I would make would be to buy another Scap for the prefix, if I could afford it!
I definitely do not hanker after an LP12!

Basis Debut Mk. V Vacuum, Vector tonearm, Lyra Olympos cartridge and supercapped Stageline. Still waiting for Naim to introduce an outboard 500 level phono stage (hint, hint).
Do not miss my LP12 at all.
