One of the greatest voices in soul ever, passed away on the flight from LA to Schipol Airport earlier today. Very sad. I'll have to dig something out of his to play later.

Had the privilege of seeing Solomon 7 years ago at a gig in Manchester I rate as one if the three greatest I have seen in my entire life. We were lucky enough to be front and centre and it was my unofficial tenth anniversary. He reduced my wife and I to tears. Absolutely magical.
Worth digging out the Later DVDs to see him make Robert Plant and Tom Jones sound puny in comparison.
Not a fan of online obituaries and tributes etc but on this occasion... I am hopeful that once the cash ins are out of the way someone will finally wrote the full extraordinary life story of this truly great man.
RIP Solomon - one of the few singers who truly deserved the epithet "great".
